Synopsis:

America’s worst nightmare has come true: a “cyber–Pearl Harbor” attack by unknown terrorists has crippled the nation’s power grid—and brought the land of the free to its knees. As widespread panic and violence ravage the country, its ruthless captors issue their ultimatums…and vow an apocalyptic reckoning.A defenseless nation scrambles to fight an invisible invasion. Chief among America’s last line of defense is Lana Elkins, head of a major cyber-security company—and former top NSA operative—who returns to her roots to spearhead the Agency’s frantic efforts to combat the enemy’s onslaught on its own terms. While she and her superiors take action to infiltrate a terrorist hotbed overseas, much closer to home ruthless jihadists with a nuclear bomb hijack a busload of schoolchildren—including Lana’s daughter—and race toward a rendezvous with Armageddon in America’s greatest city.
With Lethal Code, Thomas Waite raises the international techno-thriller to dangerously exciting levels—introducing a valiant new action heroine, and initiating a series that brings a harrowing new edge of realism to sensational speculative fiction.

My Rating:  5 Stars

Will the next attack on humanity come from cyberspace? Can one unidentified terrorist group bring the United States to its knees, take over the control of its nuclear weaponry, the airwaves and create enough panic to crush the foundation and fabric of this country? With a few brilliantly executed keystrokes, it has happened and it’s up to a small group of government power players, a civilian forced into a dangerous game of spy vs spy, a brilliant female computer warrior and a young teenaged girl to help save the precious lives of innocent U. S. citizens, before destruction rains down.

While chaos reigns supreme, unlikely heroes emerge, a mother and daughter learn the value of love and a country is brought to a screeching halt as both the best and worst in mankind comes out in the darkest of times. From the Middle East to the Western United States, a global search is on to discover who has achieved the unthinkable and why. The usual suspects appear innocent, but someone has become a deadly force among hackers. The bulk of the country’s hopes rests on the shoulders of one woman and her ability to break in, break down and cripple the Lethal Code in time to stop Armageddon.

Face it, who doesn’t wonder about the ability of an enemy to break into one of the most secure systems in the world and slice the legs off the U.S.? Thomas Waite lays out the plot, fills in the details and provides the reader with a completely plausible scenario that is chilling to the core. From the actions of Americans on the streets to the bravery of the soldiers called upon to tread in hostile territory while risking life and limb, there is no sugar coating in Thomas Waite’s tale. He dissects each scene with brilliant detail, emotion and a sense of urgency that had my heart racing as my mind envisioned each action.

If you like a taut and bold tale of contemporary terrorism that will rock your foundations of security, as you white-knuckle your way through each page, I highly recommend Lethal Code.
