Every sacrifice has consequences.

Sixteen-year-old Rowan has spent most of his life living among the mortals—learning to control the element of fire, impatiently awaiting the day his vengeful mother, Queen Prisma, will abdicate her throne. When he finally returns to Avalon for his coronation, his mother insists he must first prove his loyalty to the court by completing a secret mission:

Kill Kalin, the half-human, half-elemental daughter of the air court king.

Willing to do anything to remove his mother from power, he agrees to sacrifice the halfling. He returns to the mortal world with his best friend, Marcus, determined to kill the princess. But as he devises a plan, he starts to question whether or not he's capable of completing such a heinous task. And what price he will pay if he refuses?

The Shadow Prince (Mortal Enchantment, #0.5)My Review
The Shadow Prince by Stacey O'Neale
My Rating: 5 Stars

They say good things come in small packages, that said, The Shadow Prince by Stacey O’Neale is a powerhouse of emotion and story that goes beyond good to great!

Rowan is the heir to the Fire Court throne, but his mother, a vicious and brutal ruler whose lust for power and control will never give up her throne. When he is summoned to court, he is told the Queen will be abdicating her throne and he is to be installed as King, a very unusual act, as they have no relationship. All he has to do is go against everything he holds dear and perform one heinous act. Does the good he could do for his people outweigh the act he must commit? What happens next will shred every ounce of emotion from your heart as Rowan must come to terms with his new life. Filled with honor and compassion, Rowan is truly a fantasy hero come true.

I was enthralled by this prequel, I immediately got book one. If this is any indication of the marvels that dance around Stacey O’Neale’s head, the Mortal Enchantment Series is going to hit my favorites list, book after book! Ms. O’Neale has thrown herself into her work and the love of her craft shows as she holds nothing back, wastes no words and plunges forward which in-depth characters, vivid and raw scenes and does it all with a bold flare. Highly recommended!
