RITA finalist and USA Today bestselling author Ruthie Knox kicks off a steamy new series set in the city that never sleeps—alone, at least.
May Fredericks hates New York. Which is fair enough, since New York seems to hate her back. After relocating to Manhattan from the Midwest to be with her long-distance boyfriend, NFL quarterback Thor Einarsson, May receives the world’s worst marriage proposal, stabs the jerk with a shrimp fork, and storms off alone—only to get mugged. Now she’s got no phone, no cash, and no friends. How’s a nice girl supposed to get back to safe, sensible Wisconsin?
Frankly, Ben Hausman couldn’t care less. Sure, it’s not every day he meets a genuine, down-to-earth woman like May—especially in a dive in the Village—but he’s recovering from an ugly divorce that cost him his restaurant. He wants to be left alone to start over and become a better man. Then again, playing the white knight to May’s sexy damsel in distress would be an excellent place to start—if only he can give her one very good reason to love New York.
Truly by Ruthie Knox
A series of unfortunate events, sends May Fredericks fumbling into Ben Hausman's life.
May has recently relocated to New York after a disastrous public proposal to NFL quarterback, Thor Einarsson. Deciding to return to her hometown, May is mugged leaving Thor's NYC apartment. Now she is stranded in NYC without money or ID. Refusing to return to Thor's home, May decides to hit the local pub known for its Wisconsin clientele. That is where she meets the rude and difficult Ben Hausman.
Ben's view on life has been pretty negative since his divorce. Deciding to “try” to be nicer, Ben takes some time to get to know May...the obvious damsel in distress.
This story takes place in the realm of a few weeks but it still has the feel like they got to know each other over a much longer length of time. What I'm trying to say is even though its a quick romance, you don't get that insta-love vibe.
Truly provides a sweet, falling in love story. Both May and Ben have (non-paranormal) demons they must face and its extremely entertaining watching their transformations and them coming to a greater self awareness. Not only do you get an intimate look into Ben's and May's lives but I loved the journey through NYC...Ben holds a love for the city that never sleeps that I completely share. Knox combines just the right blend of romance, funny and emotion to make Truly a flat out feel good, entertaining read.
I received this ARC copy of Truly from Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication August 5, 2014.
