What’s your worst nightmare?

For Ivy Jensen, it’s the eyes of a killer that haunt her nights. For Parker Bradley, it’s bloodthirsty sea serpents that slither in his dreams.

And for seven essay contestants, it’s their worst nightmares that win them an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at director Justin Blake’s latest, confidential project. Ivy doesn’t even like scary movies, but she’s ready to face her real-world fears. Parker’s sympathetic words and perfect smile help keep her spirits up. . . at least for now.

Not everyone is so charming, though. Horror-film fanatic Garth Vader wants to stir up trouble. It’s bad enough he has to stay in the middle of nowhere with this group—the girl who locks herself in her room; the know-it-all roommate; “Mister Sensitive”; and the one who’s too cheery for her own good. Someone has to make things interesting.

Except, things are already a little weird. The hostess is a serial-killer look-alike, the dream-stealing Nightmare Elf is lurking about, and the seventh member of the group is missing.

By the time Ivy and Parker realize what’s really at stake, it’s too late to wake up and run.

Welcome to the Dark House by Laurie Faria Stolarz
My Rating:

Would you share your worst nightmare to win an all-expense paid trip to see one of the world’s premier horror film producers who promises to end your nightmare forever?? For seven teens, this could be the trip of a lifetime, or a nightmare far worse than any they have ever experienced. Dropped off in a remote location, these teens will face staged horrors that will amuse, amaze and scare them to death! But is there more than meets the eye going on? Are these “staged” horrors a masterful production or something more sinister? Lock your doors, turn on all the lights and leave yourself a an escape route before you start this one!

Welcome to the Dark House by Laurie Faria Stolarz is pure horrific bliss! Better than a movie, Ms. Stolarz puts such gruesome detail into each scene, my mental “viewer” had my heart racing, calling out to the characters and thinking twice about EVER going on any amusement ride that goes underground in the dark! From maniacal monsters with chainsaws, to ghosts and creepy dolls, these kids are forced to fight for survival. Who will live? Who will die or go missing?

Laurie Faria Stolarz and her twisted pen have created dark, blood-curdling scenes that go beyond just feeling real, but actually made my heart race while she pits these seven damaged kids against not only their biggest fears, but their own mortality. To say she has a gift for horror would be an understatement!

I received an ARC edition from Disney Hyperion in exchange for my honest review.
