The Survivors by Angela White
The Apocalypse has come, the United States has been crushed by a nuclear war and chaos and anarchy abound as different factions clamor for power and control. Many who have survived suffer from mutations and radiation poisoning while those fortunate to have lived through miraculously unscathed are in a fight for their lives and are banding together to rebuild their once great country. Seven unique individuals will dig deep to help create a new society. One man has a dream to unite the people in peace and he works tirelessly to teach and lead by example, but deep down he carries a secret that could get him killed. As pilgrims find their way to his group, they each undergo precautionary quarantine, in turn, they are given a chance to survive. Will the dark forces who seek to take over the country find their hideout? Will it spell doom for this band of survivors?
Unlikely heroes will rise from the ashes, many will fall in battle or as a statistic of the radiation, and still more will see their evil sides win out over their conscience in this war between man, technology and the now unstable elements.
The Survivors: Life After War by Angela White is an intentionally chaotic read, staging simultaneous events, moving from scene to scene, character to character, as they all make the deadly journey to their place of last hope. Angela White has done a remarkable job squeezing every drop of suspense and intrigue out of the world she has created, giving her own imagination’s view of what a post-apocalyptic world would be. In a word, her world is terrifying. It also rings with a possible truth, if one looks at the state of the word today. Walk with these survivors, feel their feelings, see what they see, experience the horrors they must endure. Wonderful reading from a new author with an amazing gift for storytelling.
I received a review copy from the author as part of the Survivors Book Tour, stopping at Tome Tender August 27, 2014.
