by her family’s plans to wed her to a stranger, sixteen-year-old
Princess Adria must decide whether to flee the underwater Kingdom of
Merta or fight to keep her rightful place. When Kai, the criminal she’d
rescued informs her of a plot to kidnap her future sister-in-law, Adria
decides to take action to prove her loyalty.
Sparks flew between
her and Kai when they met during a hurricane misadventure, but she can’t
trust her judgment about him. Especially when Kai won’t help stop the
kidnapping because he’s on his own secret mission. A mission that he
refuses to divulge.
In a case of mistaken identity, Adria is
kidnapped and whisked away to a mysterious glacial underwater world of
ice and evil where she learns that everything isn’t rainbow fish and
roses, that there are Atlanteans who suffer and slave, and that being
cold isn’t a state of body, but a state of mind.
With Kai as her prison guard, the two teens grow closer, and Adria must choose between loyalty to her kingdom or to her dreams.
Atlantis Glacial Tides by Allie Burton
With all of the bravado and youth of a sixteen-year-old, still trying to prove her worth as a princess, Adria learns from Kai, of all Atlanteans, that there is an evil plot afoot to kidnap her future sister-in-law. Maybe she wouldn’t have acted with all of the best intentions in such a rash way if her parents had not just announced they have arranged her marriage to a rather slimy, but supposedly powerful man. Adria’s first reaction? NOT happening, she wants love, she wants the freedom to choose her own mate, but politics have gotten in the way and a deal has been struck.
Why should she trust Kai? Her heart betrayed her with him before and he is still a badguy, withholding important information about his own secret machinations. While trying to stop the kidnapping, she is kidnapped, herself in a case of wrong place right time or something. Will her abductors set her free once they learn who she is or will she become a far more valuable pawn in the quest to overthrow her father?
Now a prisoner, Adria sees the ugly side of life for many Atlanteans, as they work as slaves in the frozen waters of Antarctia. Can she get free? Will Kai help her or will his job as her guard mean more than her affections? Adria needs to grow up fast in order to save lives, including her own, but is she willing to trust the right people?
In this chilling addition to the Daughters of Atlantis series, Allie Burton plunges us into the freezing waters of despair and slavery in Atlantis Glacial Tides. Get ready for her quick wit, her fast-paced style and her attention to detail in each scene, while still giving us the feel of a sixteen-year-old girl, out of her depth, but never backing down or giving up. Ms. Burton can create nasty and nice characters as well as she can keep us wondering who is really playing on what side of good vs evil. From start to finish, this is non-stop fantasy! You may need an extra blanket to cozy up with as those frigid waters begin to feel real.
I received an ARC edition from Allie Burton in exchange for my honest review.
