We've Always Got New YorkMy Review
We've Always Got New York by Jill Knapp

Amalia has faced some hard revelations, takes a break from her new found life in New York, and in a huge leap summers in Brazil, while gathering up her courage and fortitude to face the next step in her life. Did she really think her friends would put their lives on hold while she was gone? Did she expect to come back after three months away and just fall back into the world she ran from? Big surprise, life went on, people changed, but none more dramatically than her best friend, who now gives her the cold shoulder. Homeless and feeling like the square peg trying to fit into a round hole, Amalia’s life needs to be set on a new course.

Olivia, on the other hand finds the return to school and her relationship with her boyfriend to be complete, satisfying and she has found that comfort zone in life where she is content and well, happy! Together these two young women tell their stories of life in NYC, the daily highs and lows, the surprises, the disappointments and the confusion they face as they make their way through the maze that is life.

What author Jill Knapp has accomplished with We’ve Always Got New York is to tell the tales of a group of young people, learning to be independent, facing the uncertainties of life and trying to cope with the ins and outs of love, attraction and day to day living when there are so many uncertainties to face. The emotions overflow as each young woman tells her story through her own POV. Character driven, we’ re taken on a journey through a slice of life, seeing people as individuals and being able to discover what makes each tick. There are moments of high tension, doubt and fear of the unknown, the action is in the day to day trials of normal people living normal lives. I found I needed to understand the way these characters ticked, but I did NOT have to necessarily agree. For that reason, this came to life for me, kind of like reading someone's daily journal.
