Synopsis:
Gargoyles were created centuries ago to protect mankind, but something went horribly wrong. Now only the sentinel—a mortal chosen to control the stone beasts—stands between them and their human prey.

When the latest sentinel is killed, Kate Mercer is destined to take his place. But Kate has enough going on in her life—like a skyrocketing film career, a delusional ex-boyfriend, and a crazed stalker who will stop at nothing to get to her. But the powers that be have decided, and Kate is transported to Shadow Wood, a mysterious castle that serves as a sanctuary for the supernatural. Although beautiful, Shadow Wood is no safe place for a mere mortal. Yet Kate is drawn not only to the gargoyles but also to Ian McGuire, a charming novelist who might be in the greatest danger of all.

As Kate decides whether to accept the most perilous role of her life, she discovers there are more secrets than answers within the castle’s walls. Her survival and Ian’s depend on her ability to master the gargoyles before time runs out. Is fate really cast in stone?

Of Shadow and StoneMy Review:
Of Shadow and Stone by Michelle Muto

The gargoyles sentinel has died. As the gargoyles awaken they have chosen, Kate Mercer, an action star movie actress as their next sentinel. She keeps getting sucked into a spooky castle in her dreams, but she is beginning to discover its not dreams but reality and the gargoyles are committing extreme acts of justice no matter the extent of the crime. They want her to control them. Kate must decide if she is going to join this mystical world and control the gargoyles or stay in her actress life leaving herself mostly isolated by her fame.

To complicate matters, the creator of the gargoyles has brought in another contender for her position, Ian, a writer in need of a muse. Their is chemistry between them but it takes a back seat to the world building.

The climax is when her actress career and the gargoyle world collide with Ian rushing to save the day.

The story starts out strong and intriguing but then the characters seem to be inflicted with a total lack a personality with lots of vacillating within themselves.

The world building and background is highly descriptive and the gruesome. This is a dark paranormal world. I did enjoy the world Muto created. We have vampires, gods, demons, werewolves and gargoyles and a great premise for a wonderful potential story to come. 3 stars.

I received this ARC copy of Of Shadow and Stone from Amazon Publishing - Skyscape in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication February 24, 2015.
