In the aftermath of Morgan le Fay’s war on Camelot, the once great kingdom struggles to rebuild. Vivienne, Merlin's former apprentice, toils in secret day and night on orders from the Lady of the Lake to build an aeroship. The Lady has seen the future and promises that the ship will ensure Camelot’s knights triumph over the Black Knight in the quest for Avalon and the Holy Grail.

But when a company of knights goes missing—including Owen, Vivienne’s brother, and Marcus, her beloved—Vivienne changes the plan and commandeers the aeroship for a rescue mission, altering the fates of all involved. Now, the Lady sees danger in Vivienne’s future. And for Marcus: either betrayal or death.

Avalon RisingMy Review:
Avalon Rising by Kathryn Rose

Avalon Rising is the second installment in the Metal and Lace Series.

Vivienne was left behind in Camelot while her brother and Marcus go out on the quest to find the Holy Grail. When word reaches Vivienne that the mission is in shambles and both her brother and Marcus are missing. Vivienne takes it upon herself to use the aeroship she built and mounts a rescue mission; only to be side tracked by the gods.

It is all about alchemy, magic, good and evil and the grey areas in between. Vivienne will be tested and the survival of all depends on her ability to pass as a pawn in a game she is just starting to understand.

Avalon Rising is a masterfully mixing of mechanics, magic and mythology. Rose takes a unique and ingenious helix approach by meshing together the quest for the Holy Grail and the Nights of the Round table and coming up with a totally fresh steampunkish adventure.

I found this story to be a nail biting read with a H.U.G.E. devastating cliffhanger. Written for a young teen I rated with a younger reader in mind 4.5 Stars.

I received this ARC copy of Avalon Rising in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication May 8, 2015.
