When Ella Briley asked her lucky-in-love friends to set her up
for an office party, she was expecting a blind date. Instead, she's
pulled through a magic mirror and into the past...straight into the arms
of her very own Mr. Darcy.
Patrick Meadowfair, earl of
Fairhaven, is too noble for his own good. To save a female friend from
what is sure to be a loveless marriage, he's agreed to whisk her off to
wed the man she truly wants. But all goes awry when Patrick mistakes
Ella for the would-be bride and kidnaps her instead.
away from everything she knows, Ella's finally found a man who heats her
blood and leaves her breathless. Too bad he's such a perfect gentleman.
Yet the reluctant rake may just find this modern girl far too tempting
for even the noblest of men to resist...
Kiss the Earl by Gina Lamm
Like a breath of fresh air, Gina Lamm’s quirky time traveling historical romance forgoes the heaving bosoms and totally cad-like rake for two delightfully endearing characters who can toss the banter with the best of of them! Ella needs a date, sends out the SOS to her friends and discovers they have something much better planned for her. One trip back in time through the magical mirror and into the arms of one handsome Earl opens a whole new world of love, lust and adventure for Ella. Okay so Patrick mistakes her for a long time friend. Hey, an innocent mistake, have you any idea how many black cloaks there are in the world at any given time? The rest, as they say, is history, of the dangerous, deceitful, yet well-meaning kind that almost gets Patrick killed. Is it possible that the mirror is toying with poor Ella? This man is her wicked dreams come true, but all of that stodgy honor? Seriously? Ella is a twenty-first century woman, and Patrick is no saint, yet each holds back, one out of fear of rejection and one who uses a lie to hide his true feelings. When the shields come down, the heat index rises and the sensual escapades begin!
Gina Lamm’s Kiss the Earl is fun, quirky and far from being a dyed in the wool historical romance! Thoroughly modern Ella is no shrinking violet and Patrick is fairly easy going and accepting of what Ella tells him, then again, perhaps she is a little crazy? Ms. Lamm brings humor, romance and a touch of magic to this light and lovely read. Her world actually feels like a wonderful place to be, insulated within the cocoon these two share. Two eras collide, two hearts meet, chalk another point up for Team Cupid.
I received an ARC edition from Sourcebooks Casablanca in exchange for my honest review.
