When you control music, every note is a weapon.
Most girls don't think twice about singing along with their favorite song on the radio. Not me. I hum once and it zombifies the hottest guy in school.

The Pied Piper was real and I am his descendant. Music is my curse. If I don't master the song inside myself, it will overpower me, and if that happens...
Let's put it this way: the last piper to lose control led a town-full of children to a river and started the plague.

Welcome to my life.

A Piper's Song: The Pied Piper Tales by C.K. Johnson

A Piper's Song: The Pied Piper TalesWhat? There is more than one Pied Piper? I was in shock and after gathering my wits, I finally settled into this fresh and completely original tale of one of the descendants of the original Pied Piper. To say Kyra comes from a dysfunctional family would be a complete understatement, as the chaotic start to this tale revved up for the main attraction, the life and training of Kyra, a powerful Piper with a good heart. Did you know Pipers exist worldwide, in their own clans, and as such are very clannish and often distrustful of others?
Kyra needs training from a master she can trust. When you are capable of using music as a weapon for good or evil, you must learn how to control it or all heck can break loose. Follow Kyra as she is thrown pipe-first into a world of power, music and control. Will she prove true to her heritage or redeem her family’s name in the eyes of the piper world?

A Piper's Song: The Pied Piper Tales by C.K. Johnson is definitely an eye-opener for one such as myself who thought they had read of every magical being there was! After a slightly dizzying start, where I found myself re-reading a bit, C.K. Johnson got her creative claws into me and I was constantly amazed at where she led this tale. Perhaps, she, too is a Piper with a magical gift? Kyra is a treat, a sometimes snarky, but very insecure teen with a problem and as she grows into her new skin, she comes of age with grace. Her master instructor, starts out quirky but grows into the kind of mentor any teen could benefit from, even with his less than “by the book” techniques.

C.K. Johnson has proven that behind every fairytale, there is a contemporary story to tell well, it just takes a powerful imagination to pull it off while including a little young love, family drama, family solidarity and learning to believe in oneself. A Piper's Song: The Pied Piper Tales took a couple of bars, but had me completely under its spell. Something sure to resonate with young and old teens, alike!

I received this copy from C.K. Johnson in exchange for my honest review. 4.5 Stars!
