A scrumptious pie. A long distance guy. 4th of July fireworks guaranteed.
Lauren Hauser has it all…nearly. With a shiny new job and sparkly new engagement ring on her finger, the only thing she’s missing is her gorgeous new fiancĂ© by her side. Should she be worried? Jack’s kisses are as sizzling as always and, sure, long distance is hard but, she and Jack are solid, right?
Of course the stress of planning a wedding—or not—is nothing compared to the stress of baking an apple pie. Because it’s not just any apple pie that Lauren must bake for the 4th of July contest; it’s her grandmother’s famous, award-winning apple pie! Yet Lauren is determined to make this pie her own and a little apple pie should be no problem for the Hauser clan dessert queen…!
But with her new job taking up so much time, a prize pie to perfect and the growing distance between her and Jack, Lauren begins to wonder if she can really have it all… Only one things for sure, there’ll be fireworks this 4th of July!

How to Bake the Perfect Apple Pie (Home for the Holidays - Book 3)Fireworks, both of the heart and in the air make a nice background for this light and fluffy romantic tale, oh yes, and pie, lots of pie and humor and uncertainty! How to Bake the Perfect Apple Pie by Gina Henning is quick, cute and light as the merengue that graces the tops of a baker’s pie.

Lauren seems to be on top of the world, or getting there, engaged, climbing the corporate ladder and an ace at desserts, having come from what seems to be a long line of kitchen queens. Still, her fiancĂ© is miles away, the gossip mills are churning at work and she is committed to carrying on the family tradition of baking the best apple pie for the Fourth of July Bake off. How could she know that a surprise entry could go from her biggest supporter to her biggest friendly rival? The secret to a great pie lies in more than the ingredients, it lies in love, and Lauren is finding that out, big time! You know what they say; if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen, but what if that heat is coming from the one you love?

Gina Henning has written a delightfully light-hearted and often humorous romance with just the right touch of romance and minor conflict to be a wonderfully summer read that will leave you smiling! She never gets too dark or too serious, although troubles are hinted at, hey, this is about love, sweet love, so why muddy the waters?

I read this as a standalone and loved it for what it is, pure entertainment that left me feeling good, and a little hungry. I have a feeling, getting the background from previous books in the series would only add to the fun, although it would probably add to my hunger pangs and waistline, too! For some reason, I am craving an apple pie, but cannot decide what kind of apples to use….

I received this copy from Carina UK per review request of Gina Henning.
