Horror Writers' Phrase Book by Jackson Dean Chase

Horror Writers' Phrase Book (Writers' Phrase Books, #1)Have you read anything by one of the Masters of YA Horror, Jackson Dean Chase? Does he manage to make you cringe, wince or feel terror? Did you want to check under the bed before turning out the lights? It’s all in the delivery, the timing, and the words that are being etched into your brain. That is the difference between being a writer and writing a story.

Some people just have the gift of gore, of making a simple action become dark and sinister, horrifying, even. Jackson Dean Chase has the confidence in his writing ability as the creator of chaos that he has put together the Horror Writers’ Phrase Book filled with a few ideas and thoughts from his own experience, as well as a multitude of phrases for every gory occasion. I’m not saying that “He was stabbed,’ doesn’t make you flinch, but “The knife thrust deep into his belly, rendering his skin useless to contain his spilling intestines,” can paint vivid soundtracks and visuals. NO! Mr. Chase did not write that, I did, but, see how an idea grows?

Directed toward writers looking for that” tag” that electrifies their readers and jolts their senses, Mr. Chase’s handy little book of horrors will help jump start the twisted creativity of those who are fleshing out their own tome of doom. Kind of like bouncing ideas around with an author buddy. I read the entire book, who knows, if a party gets a little dull, I may figure out how to use some of them, even if it’s just for charades.

I received this copy from Jackson Dean Chase in exchange for my honest review. My dark and twisted side thanks him and my light side says this is an author who advocates for ALL authors.
