Sometimes the end is a new beginning

There comes a moment when the past we’ve left behind draws attention to itself and demands that we come to terms with it. For Patty Dykstra, a woman who has long led an unassuming life, that moment comes after her aunt dies. Among a life’s worth of things, Patty finds unopened cards from her father, a man that she hasn’t seen since she was six years old.

Patty is compelled to return to a small town where she was born to find the man who used to call her Star Shine, a man she barely remembers. The Tender Bonds is the story of Patty’s life- altering journey, of the faith and hope that grow in the meanest of places, and of what it means to be truly home.

The Tender Bonds by Ute Carbone

The Tender BondsFor Patty Dykstra, the end of an unbalanced relationship and the discovery of secrets from her past mark the first time in her life that she has truly seen the world and her rightful place in it. Patty finds that a box of cards from the father she never really knew will open a place in her heart that needs to be healed and only through going back to her childhood roots can she learn the true meaning of home, caring, sharing and love of others and herself.

The Tender Bonds by Ute Carbone follows the life of a woman who has never taken a chance as she embarks on a quest thirty six years in the making. Her journey is fraught with painful discoveries, personal growth and the joy of living the life she was meant to live. Patty also discovers that she isn’t the only one with ghosts in her past, but what she does with those ghosts is what is important a she learns that home is where the heart is and when one chapter in life is over, the next one is an opportunity to rise like a Phoenix from the flames.

Ute Carbone’s world is almost magical in her descriptions, sometimes tense, sometimes sad and sometimes completely confusing as we share Patty’s journey and transformation. Beautiful words, elegantly strung together, this is a wonderful example of writing from the heart reaching towards the hearts of even the most calloused readers.

I received this copy of The Tender Bonds from Ute Carbone in exchange for my honest review.
