Independence Falls, Colorado. 1954. It was the start of a perfect summer--until the fog rolled in and changed everything. Now these heroes will explore their newfound abilities ... and each other.

June Powell's mother has one wish: that June marry into one of Independence Falls’ finest families so she can take the place in society her mother could never achieve. June has different dreams. Dreams she’s never shared for fear of upsetting her family. She longs to escape her small town to explore the great wide world she only knows from books. When she discovers she can walk through walls, her first instinct is to hide her power. What would people say if they knew? But then odd thoughts start appearing in her head ... thoughts not her own ... thoughts that could ruin more than her reputation. For June to survive, she’ll need to stop caring what others think of her once and for all.

Ivan Sokolov has always been an outsider. His family emigrated from Russia in hopes of a better life, only to find themselves shunned. As the Cold War gains steam, Ivan knows most people think of him as a Communist, or worse. It wouldn't bother him if it weren't for June Powell. As much as he hates admitting a woman can affect him so much, he longs for her to see him instead of his heritage. As his yearning grows, so does his power. But June needs more than a lover ... she needs protection.

June and Ivan aren't the only ones in Independence Falls who have mysterious new abilities. If they’re not careful, the whole town will know the truth. And not everyone intends to use their powers for good.

Exposed by Lily Cahill (Independence Falls #2)

Exposed (Independence Falls Superhero Romance Book 2)Welcome back to the year 1954. The year The Fog rolled in. The year the Communist hate frenzy meant anyone could be ostracized. In Independence Falls, a small town filled with small minds, gossip and snobbery, Ivan and his family took the brunt of this hatred. Ivan’s response was to scowl right back, knowing he had a secret, he was another “victim” of The Fog, and he had a superpower.

June was the girl who tried to make everyone happy, no matter what. Her mother expected her to marry up, her father needed her paycheck to meet the never-ending bills her mother created. All June wanted to do was get as far away from this town as soon as possible. Always the good girl, June was drowning in being what others expected of her. She also had a secret; she had gained a superpower in the aftermath of The Fog.

It was dark and stormy when they bumped into each other and then it happened. There was “something” between them, in spite of their less than cordial meeting. The heart wants what it wants and it will not be denied, two people from different worlds find a tentative love. Simple love story, right? Nope, not even close.

Controlling powers is difficult, so all affected by The Fog have gotten together to help one another, all but the one quite possibly the strongest power among them and he is determined to make everyone pay for slighting him, starting with June. He will do anything to get the other superheroes do his evil bidding and with his power they may be helpless against him. Can he be stopped before both the town and its people are destroyed? Will he pit June against Ivan or will the threads of love become steel girders against a man so twisted and vile?

Exposed by Lily Cahill is a tale of love, torment and secrets, as one group of superheroes strive to do good with their powers, only to be toyed with by true evil. Feel the small town feel, experience life in the fifties, a time more innocent than today, where being outspoken wasn’t ladylike and being different was dangerous. Lily Cahill has brought fantasy and romance to life with a touch of wonder, some attitude and completely entertaining writing! Grab your hats, gloves and purse, ladies, gentlemen; get your hats, too. We are about to stroll through Independence Falls, where Independence Day is more than just fireworks, and secrets are exposed.

I received this copy from Lily Cahill in exchange for my honest review.
