But there is something unique about Zoey. She can see fae. Because of this, the DMG hires her to work as a Collector: catching, researching, testing, and using the fae to save human lives. The work never registers on her sympathy radar. She was raised to think of fae as beasts that feed on humans and want to destroy them.
When devastation hits Seattle, Zoey's whole world is turned upside down. The electric storm connects her to a ruthless fae, a Wanderer named Ryker, whose dealings expose them to even more trouble and danger. They embark on a journey, running and hiding from both the government and fae, both of which threaten their lives and those they love.
City in Embers is a marvelous new urban fantasy.
Zoey Daniels', a survivor caught in a fae created electrical storm, life is turned upside down when the very organization she worked form DMG, turns against her. Her job, collect fae for a highly secretive government organization in attempts to build weapons against them as well as use them to develop medical advancements for humans.
On the run from the DMG, Zoey find herself in a positon to lean on the very creatures she’s come to detest, the fae…especially Ryker, a highly skilled and leathal fae. It seems a mishap during the storm has transferred something vital between Zoey and Ryker, keeping them connected in a way no one could ever imagine.
This non-stop adventure will keep you on your toes as Zoey and Ryker seem to jump from the frying pan right into the fire. Balancing suspense and humor, Brown has created a great read.
I loved how the hate the was nurtured between fae and human slowly turns to appreciation and understand. Brown miraculously transforms her characters right before your eyes. The changes are wonderfully but very realistically developed and not rushed.
This is my first read by Stacey Marie Brown but won’t be my last.
