Cinderella's fairy tale moves to Jupiter Island, Florida where Lily Foster, owner of an eclectic landscape nursery, is mistaken for a wealthy socialite by billionaire resort developer Rhett Buchanan. Overdue for a little romance in her life, Lily is anxious for one fabulous date with her handsome prince, so she cultivates her inadvertent masquerade.

Rhett Buchanan has become jaded with the Palm Beach social scene, dominated by scheming women desperate for more money -- his money. Rhett falls hard when he meets Lily Foster. She is a breath of fresh air after the smog of gold diggers constantly surrounding him.

For Rhett and Lily, it's love at first sight until her deception comes to light and pitches their relationship into a disastrous tailspin. Well-meaning friends are determined to intercede and resort to inept high jinks to reunite the estranged couple while a wicked ex-girlfriend plays dirty to keep the couple apart.

1. Tell us about Petie the person, NOT the author

Sure thing, but first let me thank you for allowing me to spend time today with your Tome Tender readers!

I am an outdoorsy-type girl, which is handy since I have been an aquatic biologist, by education and profession, for most of my career. I've spent a lot of time doing aquatic insect and vegetation surveys and can drive almost any kind of floatable craft. Even airboats, though they are not my favorite—no steering wheel, just a stick. Yikes!

I worked at the Walt Disney World Resort twice. That's not a typo; I did two tours of duty there. Starting part-time as a sophomore in college, I remained for a few years after graduation until I decided the grass must be greener on the outside. It didn't take me long to realize what I had given up, so I went back and stayed for the remainder of my biologist career. You could not find a better company to work for than the Walt Disney Company.

Because of my love of the outdoors, it also makes sense that I would enjoy a sport like golf. I really do, but I suck at golf, which makes not one smidgen of difference to me. Why, you ask? Because golf is a cutie-patootie sport. Did I lose you there? A round of golf takes four hours to play. Imagine you and a handsome guy snuggled side-by-side in a small golf cart—the colder, the better. [The weather, not the cart.] And there you have a cutie-patootie sport! Just be careful picking the cutie.

2. Tell us THREE things about you that cannot be found
Secret #1 — My first job at Disney World was in Guest Relations as a Tour Guide. Yes, I wore the riding habit, complete with a blue velvet hat, and looked like National Velvet in competition. Four-hour tours of the Magic Kingdom and one of the greatest jobs I have ever had.

One particular day, I had a VIP tour with three gentlemen from a company listed on my tour voucher as Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith. The name meant nothing to me at the time. The tour participants spent the first hour peppering me with questions as most tours did: where did I go to school, my studies, my goals, etc. Finally, one of the men said, "We know all about you now. What do you know about Merrill Lynch?"

I was a college kid, so I had no clue other than a recently-run commercial on TV with a herd of cattle thundering across the screen and a voice proclaiming, "Merrill Lynch. Bullish on America." So I took a wild guess and replied, "Meat packing? Slaughterhouses?"

The three men gaped at me as though I'd grown a second head. One ML Guy asked, "Why would you think that?"
"Well, because of your commercial with the herd of stampeding cattle." He turned to his two compatriots and said, "That commercial has got to go."

Secret #2 — During a brief stint [in my sabbatical from Disney] working as a biologist for the Orange County Environmental Protection Dept., I took some county officials via ski boat on a tour of a local lake chain to search for a new public boat-ramp site. This tour occurred in winter, and the temperature was about fifty degrees that morning. As I eased the ski boat  out of a shoreline marsh, I hit an underwater cypress knee and dumped the Asst. County Planning Director—who should not have been standing in the bow — right off the front of the boat and into the lake. The biggest shock? I didn't get fired! Do you know your heart can actually stop beating for long moments without you having a heart attack?

Secret #3 — I am the world's biggest John Wayne fan. I own probably 90% of his movies. The missing 10% are the World War II flicks. I loved "The Duke" as a cowboy. My favorite all-time feature? Big Jake.

3. What is the hardest interview question you have ever had to answer
Any question that asks me for advice on writing technique or how to write a better book. I think writing skills are like the accoutrements hiding in your make-up drawer. What makes me look good may make someone else look washed out and vice versa, so I always dread the advice questions. The only advice I am completely comfortable giving new writers is never, EVER give up. Like Stephen King once said, "the only difference between published writers and unpublished writers is the published writers never gave up."

Petie earned a Bachelor's degree in Zoology from the University of Central Florida, which was no help at all when she decided to write romance novels as a second career. Her particular background did afford her the luxury of many unique assignments during her career as an aquatic biologist, including aquatic plant surveys in Florida lakes and streams by airboat. Many of those off-the-wall assignments provided background for her stories.

Petie spent most of her career working as a biologist at the Walt Disney World Resort, "The Most Magical Place on Earth." What could be more magical than driving by Cinderella's Castle on your way to work every day? Living in the heart of the theme park entertainment industry constantly tweaked her imagination and made her want to write. She had the fun of working in the land of fairy tales by day and creating her own romantic fairy tales by night. She eventually said good-bye to her wonderful "day" job to write her stories full-time.

These days, Petie shares her home on the beautiful Cumberland Plateau with her horticulturist husband, a spoiled-rotten English springer spaniel addicted to green olives stuffed with pimento, and a talkative Nanday conure named Sassy who makes a cameo appearance in Angel to the Rescue. She loves golf, running, and reads voraciously. That's Petie, not the conure.

    4. No vampire princess...sorry. :-)
But my next fairy tale is Betting on Cinderella and takes place at an abandoned casino in Biloxi recently taken over by a casino magnate known as the "Prince of Vegas"— returning Garrett Tucker from Cinderella Busted as the "Prince."
