Devil-may-care rogue Lord Darius Alexander can’t resist a wager. When a game of cards is suggested at the remote inn where he’s stopped for the night, he antes up his family’s savings, certain his Town bronze will give him the advantage. He never expects to lose his fortune to the irritatingly confident, uncommonly beautiful hoyden daring to play with the men. …Nor does he expect to lose his heart.

Caitlin Hart is known for her good sense. When a ridiculous reprobate tosses his savings onto the gaming table, she doesn’t hesitate to divest him of it. But Lord Dare won’t accept defeat like a gentleman. He suggests a compromise, and before long the handsome scoundrel is working back his losses on her small farm. But her neatly plowed fields might be too close for her heart’s content, for soon she finds herself wondering if she can dare him to stay forever when the last of his coin is tucked safely into his pocket.

The Danger in Daring a Lady by Emma Locke
(The Naughty Girls #6)

The Danger in Daring a Lady (The Naughty Girls #4)Sometimes falling in love defies all logic, but chemistry is chemistry and the chemistry between Caitlin and Dare often seems like a brew that could blow up at any moment. Emma Locke’s The Danger in Daring a Lady pits love against all odds, as one over-inflated dandy of a man falls for a woman with more backbone than he could ever dream to have.

We can safely say it was the luck of the draw that brought Lord Darius to his knees at the feet of a woman ahead of her time, managing her small farm on her own, and persevering against the odds that are stacked against her. He waged a bank note against her farm and lost. Now he must return home in disgrace, once again or learn what the pride of a job well done truly means. Meanwhile, her dismissals of his normally spot on charm makes him all the more eager to win her over, but what would a man of his “station” know about wooing a commoner? Follow along as Caitlin takes Dare to task, teaching him the fine art of integrity, hard work and caring from someone other than himself. Old habits die hard and Dare’s gambling is an illness, will he be willing to wager his heart on the no-nonsense Caitlin? Will she take his bet and perhaps raise the stakes?

Emma Locke has taken us back in time and brought together two equally charming characters, one with a sense of purpose and a work ethic we can applaud and one, who for all intents and purposes is a user, self-centered and grossly immature, using lies and his body to exist. Ahhh, but there is a reason Dare is the way he is and until he comes to terms and makes amends with those he has hurt, he has nothing to offer Caitlin except a willing and handsome body. Caitlin is the kind of woman to be proud to know, the kind one can look up to, but love is love and even a couple as strange as this can feel it. Will Caitlin be Dare’s salvation or will she kick the final leg of the stool out from under him?

It is a long journey to the end, filled with broken promises, too many vows to change without substance and definitely there is no strong alpha to look up to, or is there? Who says the alpha has to be a man?

I received this copy from the author, Emma Locke in exchange for my honest review.
