Pampered Margarita McIntosh is not used to being forced to do things she doesn’t want to do—but when her father, Jock, sends her away for her own safety, she has no choice. The long journey from Flagstaff to Durango tests her personal strength of will as never before, and the secret she carries in her saddlebag could be the death of her.

A rough Irish gunman, known to her only as “Rafferty”, is entrusted with getting her to her destination “safe and intact”—something he fully intends to do to claim the reward he’s been promised by Jock McIntosh. With a price on his head, the promised money is Rafferty’s ticket to a new life, and he’s not going to jeopardize that for anything—not even love.

But there are steamy nights and dangers all along the arduous trail for MARGARITA AND THE HIRED GUN, with deadly secrets between them that passion cannot erase. With her father’s enemies after her and the secret she conceals, will Rafferty’s protection be enough to save their lives? And will the heat of their passionate love be enough to seal their future together—if they do survive?

Margarita and the Hired Gun by Patti Sherry-Crews

Margarita and the Hired GunThe Wild West, home to some of the original bad boys and feisty heroines. Saddle up, the heat of the sun is nothing compared to the heat that is coming off the hired gun, Rafferty and the pampered daughter of a wealthy cattle baron, Margarita as they set off on a journey filled with secrets, danger and passion.

Rafferty has a job to do, for which he is being paid handsomely, little did he know, he should have asked for hazard pay when he took on delivering Margarita to safety when her father’s past underhanded dealings catch up with him. Although na├»ve to the ways of the wild side to the Wild West, Margarita has attitude in spades and the determination to never quit or show weakness to this cold-hearted man.

Rafferty has his own secrets and one of these is that this aggravating woman has stirred something long dead in him, his heart. Not a match made in heaven, but as they cross the hell of deserts, mountains and foul weather alone, they reveal more to each other than anyone has seen, too bad one of them forgot about the biggest secret they hide, the one that puts them in mortal danger.

Margarita and the Hired Gun by Patti Sherry-Crews has it all, humor, romance, high-tension aggravation and secrets! The horses, guns and grit of the trail are an added bonus as two people from polar opposite worlds find a connection of the heart. The question becomes, is that connection strong enough to endure deadly lies and deceit? Characters that come alive, dialogue and actions that play out like a movie in my imagination and scenes that have me thinking that sleeping under the stars by the campfire may have its benefits, from start to finish, a delightful escape into the past without the saddle sores

I received this copy from Patti Sherry-Crews in exchange for my honest review.
