He’d always been her nemesis…

Quiet, solemn Amelia Mason never expected or wanted to become the Portal. But with her older brother’s death, she no longer has an option. Branded by Fate, the Portal is the human bridge between this world and the next. Her duty? To help lingering spirits cross to the afterlife. As if that wasn’t bad enough, her new job comes with a Guardian: Kyle Grant, the one man she can’t stand and the one who will stop at nothing to protect her.

… or so she’d always thought.

In order to defeat an evil spirit hunting the flatlands of Venezuela, Kyle and Amelia are going to have to put their dislike aside and work together as Portal and Guardian should. That is, if they can control the sizzling sexual tension between them.

Will they surrender to desire before it’s too late? Or will the madness of a long-dead man tear them apart forever?

Can the heat of passion burn brighter than the fear of loss?

The Portal by Isabel Brann

The PortalHave you ever really, really disliked someone, like say, your brother’s best friend for you entire life? Amelia and Kyle had a mutual hate thing happening for years, but Fate, with its wicked sense of humor saw fit to throw them together for who knows how long. Amelia comes from a family who has vowed to be portals for lingering spirits that haven’t crossed over to the afterlife. Often, these spirits are evil and they cause chaos in the human world and its Amelia’s duty to attract them and send them on. Its Kyle’s job to be her protector or Guardian, just as he was for her late brother. Other than the fact that they mix like oil and water, the snipes and barbs and little jabs could be amusing, or perhaps they could be like two school kids who actually are attracted like moths to a flame. Can you say, high sexual tension, we’re talking really high, really hot and really kind of funny, as their mental musings are the exact opposite of what comes out of their mouths.

Only when the danger level hits in the red zone, do these two learn what letting go and trusting is all about! Could it also be time for a little truth, too? You know what they say, hate is the closest thing to love, and even oil and water can make sizzling flames under the right conditions!

Isabel Brann’s The Portal sizzles with tension, great dialogue and two characters that are completely endearing in their own ways! A quick read with a few twists and some fascinating action, a dash of fun at the hands of Fate and chemistry, love the chemistry which is far more interesting than any class in high school! Ms. Brann has a nice flow to her writing with perfect timing and intensity! Great reading to take to the beach, when you finish stare at the beautiful cover!

I received an ARC edition from Isabel Brann in exchange for my honest review.
