In a world full of flesh eating creatures, sometimes humans are the more terrifying monsters.

It’s been three months since revolution swept through the city of Cherai and ousted Councilwoman King. Banished, the city now has a chance to recover from decades of injustice and oppression. With the help of Ben, Songhay, and the Gemini Gang, Niko works towards building a more egalitarian society.

But someone is murdering Slither hunters.

And coupled with the councilwoman’s reappearance, all of Niko’s hard work balances on a precarious precipice – one wrong move and it will all be for naught.

As the number of bodies rise and tensions within the city increase, Niko is soon forced to make a difficult decision. And it could change everything.

Monster by Kayti Nika Raet (The Outsiders Chronicles #4)

Monster (The Outsider Chronicles Book 4)The body count is rising in Cherai and it isn’t just the slithers that are doing the killing. Has humanity’s thin hold finally been snapped, leaving the city a murdering den of darkness? Slither hunters are being killed, is it because of a dark secret that has been kept? Is there a puppet master behind the slayings trying to bring more unrest and fear to the masses? Who could possibly want humanity’s greatest line of defense wiped out?

An ugly entity from the recent past has returned with all of the haughty pomp she is so good at showing. Councilwoman King is here to wreak havoc, cause unrest and re-take what she once commanded. How can Niko stand against the power of this cold-hearted monster who promises to destroy all she is trying to build? Is the tide turning against Niko, Ben and Songhay in spite of the good they are trying to do? Sometimes a soul can be beaten down so low that the known evil feels safer than the unknown future with its promise of a better tomorrow...
Niko and company are forced to travel to a distant city underground where there is one who has answers she needs. Is she chasing a dream while councilwoman King creates a bigger nightmare in Cherai?

Sadness, murder, change and heartbreak for dreams lost, for a future now clouded with doubt and everyone is either still looking to young Niko for the answers or hunting her down to quiet her forever.

Kayti Nika Raet has outdone herself with Monster as she steps up her game rising to the tension and tone of the world she has created. No one knows their characters better than their creator, the author, so we must trust that Ms. Raet will at some point give our Niko a break. If I picture the chaos of a post – apocalyptic world gone wrong, I see the world Kayti Nika Raet has built. Prepare to brave the slithers, the acid rain and a world so foreboding that only the strong can survive, only people like Niko, whether she has her bat or her sword, I’d follow her anywhere, thanks to the brilliant writing of Kayti Nika Raet. If you haven’t tried this series out, you are missing a hidden gem of suspense, danger and survival.
