Surrounded by hunger and degradation, the city of Cherai is a sparkling, opulent metropolis, a dazzling centerpiece in humanity's fight against Slithers and acid rain. And at its heart, keeping everything shining and bright, are the Grey-Men, an oppressed workforce, drugged into submission.
But not for long.
Upon escaping her fate as a Grey-man, Niko is determined to free the whole lot, liberating all from their bondage. Together with Ben, Songhay and the Gemini Gang, they plan to take control of the city. To do that they must control the one thing no one can live without.
It only takes four days to die of thirst.

Outsider by Kayti Nika Raet (The Outsider Chronicles #3)

OutsiderLife is a living hell for those trying to stay one step ahead of the Slithers and their deadly bites. The haves are gaining more, while those without become fodder for these deadly monsters. Meanwhile the Grey-men are drugged into submission and used as the labor that makes all things bright and shiny for the upper class, but at least they have the safety of being within the city walls.

Niko has lived that nightmare and now she is free and determined to free those still trapped in a drug induced slavery. Even more important, is getting control of clean water. Water is the difference between life and death and those on the outside where the acid rain burns and the Slithers attack deserve more than the paltry amounts allotted them.

The Slither slayers have gotten back together and for the world as they know it, the feisty Niko is their rallying point, the one everyone looks to for guidance. As Niko steps up to the place, admittedly terrified and often clueless, she grows into her potential as the powerhouse behind salvation of the masses. Can she uncover the corrupt government that would deny its own children safe harbor? The clock is ticking as those with the ability to slay the slithers are being killed off, one by one. Is it because they are different? Do others fear them? Niko has enough to deal with, but even her heart gets involved when one man breaks down her resistance to love and attachments.

Kayti Nika Raet has another home run hit with Outsider as she continues her dystopian series that just never stops being a powerful read! Characters that come to life, that mature in front of our eyes and danger, always the danger, deceit and constant torment of living in a world that far surpasses any imaginings of what Hell is like. The pacing is perfect, the dialogue is genuine and one can even feel the burn of the acid rain. Ms. Raet can write, bringing letters on a page to life with the strength of her imagination.
