After five hundred years’ labor destroying worlds, half-dragon half-human Aelana returns to her home planet. She expects to be anonymous, but instead she is worshipped as a god. She finds the reincarnation of her centuries-dead first and only love and life begins anew. Little does she know, however, that a shrewd and formidable evil lays in wait, one with the power to undo everything she’s worked for. To maintain the balance of the universe, she must confront and destroy the menace before it annihilates her and everything she loves.
Wucaii by Pembroke Sinclair
Sometimes a book comes along that just sweeps you up into its world and you marvel at how different it tastes. Wucaii by Pembroke Sinclair is one of those books that took me into a world of dragons, evil, the possible end of mankind and a love that has lasted through the ages and reincarnations of two souls meant to be together, but always torn apart. In a world far beyond our knowledge, dragons are the caretakers of planets. They feel the pain each planet feels as they are destroyed from within through the dirt of pollution, the hatred of wars and the greed of the inhabitants, who take and take while failing to protect the world they live in.
Aelana is part dragon and part human, she has spent hundreds of years destroying worlds so they may rise again, hopefully better and wiser. Earth’s time has come to be “cleansed” and for Aelana, returning to her home planet so long after she left it finds her caught up in a fight for all she believes in as she is forced to stand against a power much stronger than hers with the ability to bring chaos to the delicate balance of the universe.
Flashback to Aelana’s time, when her change began, when the only ones to accept her were the dragons as you learn to understand the actions Aelana takes at the behest of the dragons. Theirs is not a cruel action, but one meant to save the universe for the future.
Little did Aelana know she would once again, find her soulmate in a new reincarnation. The bond is familiar, but as humans they are strangers, making her job all the more difficult to carryout. Will she be forced to choose between the universe and the man her heart craves?
Pembroke Sinclair is not a follower, she blazes her own trail in the literary world and sets each page on fire with vivid details, intense emotions and an intricately patterned plot that weaves a beautiful tapestry of words to get lost in. Follow a very strong heroine as she finds the will to take on her hardest assignment yet. Feel her emotions, her strengths and her sorrows as she is tested to her limits and beyond, while learning inner truths about her own heart and mind.
Simply a fascinating, well-planned plot, paced to perfection. Definitely a hidden gem in the world of reading!
Creation, Chaos, and Love
By Pembroke Sinclair
Recently, I had the opportunity to attend the OPCA conference in Hawaii. I was presenting, but I also attended other presentations. One of the presentations I attended was about Chaos and Creation.
In a nutshell, the presenter was arguing that the vast majority of creation myths from various cultures around the world have similar elements, and all of these elements can tie into physics and the actual creation of the universe. What I found fascinating about her work was the use of dragons.
She explained that throughout time and within various stories, dragons have been used to represent chaos. It can be seen in Beowulf (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beowulf), when Perseus has to fight the Kraken (http://www.greekmythology.com/Myths/Heroes/Perseus/perseus.html), and other stories. The dragons’ destructiveness is contrasted with the heroes and humanity’s need/desire for order.
She also talked about how the one element that constantly saves each culture is love. It is the driving element that keeps chaos at bay.
As she was talking, all I could think was: Oh, my god! That’s my story! That’s Wucaii!
When I first started writing Wucaii, I didn’t intend for it to be a creation story. I just wanted to tell a tale about a human-dragon hybrid. But after listening to this presentation and thinking about it, the story can definitely be seen as a creation story.
Think about it: the dragons were created at the beginning, when the universe came into existence, and they are eternal. They are chaos incarnate. They travel to the various planets in a cycle and destroy everything in their path. They allow the world to rebuild, to recreate itself.
Until Aelana came along, the inhabitants of the planets rarely survived. A few of them probably did to pass stories on to the next generations, but she ensures that more than just a few make it. Her love is what keeps them alive. This becomes emphasized when she returns to her homeworld and finds the reincarnation of her first and only love.
Personally, I thought it was fascinating, and it helped me see my story in a whole new light. It was exciting to think that Wucaii can add to the lexicon of creation stories. But, at the same time, it’s also a story about what it means to be human.

Born in Rock Springs, Wyoming--the home of 56 nationalities--it is no wonder Pembroke ended up so creatively diverse. Her fascination with the notions of good and evil, demons and angels, and how the lines blur have inspired her writing.
