Alone.
Powerless.
At the mercy of enemies.
Losing the faith of those she helped.

Niko must administer the cure that will stop Slither hunters from turning into the very monsters they fight, but Councilwoman King controls the city of Cherai once more. And she'll do everything in her power to make sure it stays that way.

Troubles are mounting, and Slithers, those pale creatures that crave human flesh are getting smarter. And learning to speak.

As time moves faster than she ever thought possible, Niko must do three things: rescue her close friend Roosevelt from the sinister Councilwoman King, take back Cherai once and for all, survive.

In this epic conclusion to The Outsider Chronicles, Niko will have to fight for what she loves, and this time, all battles are personal.

Rise by Kayti Nika Raet (Outsider Chronicles, #5)

Rise (The Outsider Chronicles, Book 5)Hasn’t Niko given enough of her blood, sweat and tears to win the undying loyalty of these she has fought for? Too young to have the weight of the world on her shoulders, Niko rises to answer the call to action, every time, but this time is different. This time she has become powerless as her evil nemesis, Councilwoman King, the woman with an evil agenda and no heart not only takes her captive, but has poisoned her name on the streets with vile propaganda, drugs and scare tactics.

Injured, broken and despairing for the losses she feels she is responsible for, Niko has little left to fight with, and only the determination to live and destroy councilwoman King keeps her going.
The zombie-like slithers are getting smarter, deadlier and for the slither hunters, this represents their future if Niko cannot get the cure to them in time. Only by a series of miracles can Niko get free and save those she loves and those she’s never met. Their future depends on her and they don’t even know it.

It’s the eleventh hour, the sands of time are running down and Niko has just caused the deaths of even more of her allies, is she finished, a lonely shell of the outsider girl who once fought with a bat and won? Is it time for her to believe in miracles or is it time to believe in herself, her fellow hunters and an untried drug that could change her hellish world into one with hop for a better future?

Rise may be Kayti Nika Raet’s finest work yet and anyone who has read this series knows she sets a high standard for herself and her characters. The emotions are running in high gear, from the tension to the hatred to the self-loathing and Niko is lost in a sea of doubt. What has Kayti Nika Raet done to Niko? Has she pushed her too far or does Niko have one more battle left within to save her world for the future?

We’ve said goodbye to fallen friends. We’ve been there for the victories and the defeats, we’ve bled with these characters and found joy in their brief moments of happiness and sorrow in their moments of pain, but we have denied that it could ever end. No, the fight isn’t over, but Ms. Raet knows when to let go and give her characters back to their world, knowing we will be thinking of them, too.

I received this copy from Kayti Nika Raet in exchange for my honest review.
