When America’s sweetheart, Courtney Bennett, finds out her husband, Brock McCain, America’s heartthrob, is leaving her, she’s sure her life is over. Thirty-nine in Hollywood is tough on any woman, but not as hard as being hunted by the relentless paparazzi. Finding herself holed up in a cabin in Colorado under the care of Wes Young, her new bodyguard, she starts to see that maybe there is life after Hollywood.

Wes Young spent more than twenty years in the Marines and the past two years in protection services. The only thing he protects more carefully than his clients is his heart. When he takes on the task of guarding Courtney Bennett, the last thing he wants to do is spend his days and nights with a spoiled, self-involved actress. Before long, Wes realizes that she is not at all what he thought. For the first time in his life, he finds himself navigating the minefield of love, trying to avoid a broken heart. Will they risk it all to be together or return to the lives they knew before The Break Up?

The Break-up (Full Hearts Book 5)The Break-up by M.J. Summers

The Break-up is an endearing romance between a movie actress and her reluctant body guard.

Courtney Bennet finds herself thrown to the curb by her husband and fellow actor, Brock. Brock pretty much black lists Courtney and even has her own PR firm/agents destroy her reputation and is an abuse asshat to boot.

Wes Young, a retired Marine, is hired to whisk Courtney into hiding. Wes is a recluse, emotionally scarred, who is great at his job but does not want any emotional entanglements.

Due to Brock’s antics, Courtney is stranded in the middle of nowhere with Brock as her only refuge and it’s definitely a difficult relationship. Strained by emotional scars, both characters butt head until the chemistry finally takes over leading to hot, steamy and absolutely more heartache.

Basically this is a scarred ex-warrior meets damsel in distress story but there something about M. J. Summers storytelling just clicked. I’m going with Summer’s ability to write characters and emotions that are heartfelt adding that extra connection needed to engulf oneself in the adventure. MakingThe Break-Up a beautifully written tale of healing and love.

I received this copy of The Break-Up from M. J. Summers in exchange for a honest review.

  1. I love when an author can breathe new life into an otherwise typical plot. It sounds like Summer's voice really elevates this one!
