Legends of old can never fade.
The truth can never die.
The tip of a spear settles any dispute.
But the love of a King comes before all.

In his fifteenth year of rule, King Uther Pendragon - High King of all the Celtic Tribes - is set on a quest by Merlyn and the druids of Mona, to brave the winter seas and set sail for the Isle of Erin. The quest placed upon the king, despite the tribal lands being at war with Saxon invaders, is to take a war party and return with a prize that will lay to rest the ghosts of the past and allow the Celts to reclaim their lands.

But none of those who set sail realize what this quest will release within their king, and what events will unfold.

The second book in C.M. Gray's Shadowland series, The Shadow of a King is a standalone fantasy adventure and can be enjoyed even if you haven't read the first book in the series.

The Shadow of a King by C.M. Gray (Shadowland Book 2)

The Shadow of a KingA world of magic, knights in shining armor, bitter and brutal wars and a king on a quest to retrieve a prize that will change the world of the Celts, all at the behest of powerful druids.

Brave the bitter winds and biting cold of the winter seas, the treacherous trails into the unknown where danger lurks around every corner and stand side by side with King Uther Pendragon and his powerful druid, Merlyn as author C.M. Gray performs his own literary spellcasting in The Shadow of a King. We all know of King Arthur, but what of the times leading to his rule? The future of Britain is unclear, King Uther is dying, as he hovers between the world of the living and the dead, the tale of a pivotal point in his life is told in all of its glorious detail. Follow Uther and Merlyn as their deep friendship shines through with their banter, the wit of Merlyn and his completely entertaining attitude, although when things get serious, he is right there beside his king.
All is not adventure and legend for this once great king, there is evil working its deviltry as one seemingly pious woman unleashes her twisted anger and dark machinations when it is both least expected and the most deadly and dangerous.

Get to know the man that was King, a side of Uther never shown, have his tales been underplayed and cast in darkness? Is he truly a man with little conscience? C.M. Gray has taken the legends from the past and given them new life, with characters that who portray good, evil, mischievousness and loyalty. See the castles, the raging seas and feel the turmoil and tension in a time when battles could erupt at any moment. Undertake the quest with Merlyn and Uther and feel this world fade into the magic of theirs.

Once again, the fertile imagination and masterful storytelling of C.M. Gray shines through, never bogging down and but always moving steadily forward as another legend is relived! Definitely a must read for anyone who wants a magical and magnetic read.

I received this copy from C.M. Gray in exchange for my honest review.
