 Murder mystery meets the paranormal.
Anita’s vacation in New York City ends tragically when she’s killed in Central Park, but instead of the end, it’s only the beginning. Her soul remains at the death scene trying hard to process what happened. And there are other ghosts here that don’t seem to be much help. And,
of course, the new reality of being a ghost does not sit well with Anita.
What is she supposed to do now?
Why can’t she go into the light? She appears connected to Detective Olivia Brown, the detective assigned to solve her murder. Is she supposed to help her or is something else going on?
Will the crime go unsolved? Does it even matter now that she’s dead? Or can Detective Olivia Brown get to the bottom of what happened that night in the park?

And can there be romance on the other side?

I Was Murdered Last Night by A.J. Gallant

I was murdered last nightThe Big Apple, filled with tourist attractions, skyscrapers and the attraction of Central Park, an oasis in the middle of the glass and concrete. For Anita, Central Park was the last thing she ever saw, alive, that is. Like the gridlock of New York traffic, Anita’s soul remained, stalled at the crime scene, a witness to the crime scene events. Shouldn’t she have gone into the light? Why is she being held in a sort of holding pen for souls who have not moved on? Perhaps she has unfinished business, like maybe nailing the thugs that stole her life? Enter Detective Olivia Brown, hard-boiled, a realist and yet, there is a connection that Anita is compelled to explore?

Let’s say that being a ghost isn’t something that comes easy for Anita, so much to learn, but it isn’t like she doesn’t have the time anymore. Her first foray with trying to connect with Olivia is less than successful, but soon, they are a team, or else Olivia is going mad. Someone is going down for Anita’s murder and who better to help nail them than their victim?

A.J. Gallant’s cozy mystery with a slight paranormal twist, I Was Murdered Last Night is an easy to read, easy to follow and easy to enjoy mystery with a little help from beyond the veil. Anita is one smart cookie, even for a newbie spirit as she seeks justice for herself. Olivia is a “just the facts” kind of woman, definitely NOT a shrinking violet who goes the extra mile for a case. They are unlikely allies that go together like peanut butter and jelly! And the rest of A.J. Gallant’s characters? From quirky spirits to nasty bad guys, they fit perfectly into this tale, rounding out this mystery and adding a sometimes amusing, sometimes romantic flavor. Clever writing, wonderful scenes and characters that come to life, well, most of them, anyway. Follow along as the mystery unfolds and ask yourself, was Anita a victim of poor timing or is there more to her death? Will she ever go into the light? How will Olivia explain her actions and “hunches” at the station?

I received this copy from A.J. Gallant in exchange for my honest review.
