What’s a forty-year-old virgin doing in a predicament like this? Looking for a husband but not because she wants one. Shy and inexperienced, Esmeralda Garcia is terrified to be dating and would rather stay at home with her three cats. But her late father’s will decrees she must marry within three years or forfeit her orchard, her only means of support.
Hank McCall, as a romantic prospect, leaves a great deal to be desired. Twice divorced and older than Esmeralda, he wants to enjoy his semi-retirement and avoid being entangled in a long-term relationship again.
Scarred by their pasts and challenged by the gap in their ages, Esmeralda and Hank struggle with their mutual attraction and growing affection. When Hank is faced with losing Esmeralda or surrendering to her yearning to have a real family, their fates hang in the balance.

Esmeralda and the Second-Hand Suitor by Hebby Roman  (Snowbirds Book 2)

Esmeralda and the Second-Hand Suitor (Snowbirds Book 2)New love isn’t just for those in their teens, 20’s and 30’s, meet forty-year-old Esmeralda, still a virgin, still hoping to someday find a special man to love and marry for more than one reason. Her late father’s will had a stipulation for her, because she wasn’t the son he had always wanted. She must marry within three years of his death or lose the lucrative orchard he owned, even after years of her loyalty and hard work.

She is not willing to just settle to get her inheritance, but Hank, while very nice and even though he reaches something deep inside her isn’t exactly great long term romance material with his track record and current position in life. Can an older, semi-retired, twice divorced man be the knight in rusty armor she has been waiting for? Is it worth risking her heart on Hank or could his past be what makes him the perfect match for love?

Go team real adults! The need for love and companionship doesn’t end when you hit the backside of 35, and the life experiences can be invaluable to creating a true and lasting bond. Contrary to the popular reading material out there, you do NOT need a perfect body, billions of dollars and dark fetishes. Hebby Roman writes about real people, flawed-by-life-and-circumstance people who are a little gun shy to take the next step to romance. No insta-love, no sex from page one through twenty, only to be repeated on pages twenty-five through forty, just an honest look at what reality is, at how frightening it must be to parachute out of the perfectly good plane you’ve been flying for decades.

Hebby Roman’s Esmeralda and the Second-Hand Suitor is a refreshing, realistic and heart-warming read that has a few dark twists and flawed characters reaching out to be accepted.

I received this copy from Hebby Roman in exchange for my honest review.
