His secrets almost killed her. Her secrets may destroy them both.

Kai is recovering from a near-death experience when she realizes something isn’t right. Her body is healing, but her mind no longer feels quite like her own. Her telepathic powers are changing, too. She can’t trust herself. The darkness growing inside of her pushes her to use her telepathy as a weapon.

Oliver clings to the hope that he can save their marriage, even though he was the one who put her life in jeopardy. As his wife slips further and further away from him, he becomes increasingly obsessed with bringing the man who ruined his life to justice.

The sequel to The Six Train to Wisconsin is a genre-defying tale of love and consequences. Once again, award-winning author Kourtney Heintz seamlessly weaves suspense and paranormal intrigue into a real-world setting, creating characters rich in emotional and psychological complexity.

Highway Thirteen to Manhattan by Kourtney Heintz
(The Six Train to Wisconsin Series #2)
Highway Thirteen to ManhattanKai struggles to recover from the nightmare of death she endured and she blames Oliver for his dark secrets and lies by omission. To be honest, so does Oliver. There is more going on inside Kai than her crumbling marriage. She feels darker, more violent, even in her broken and battered condition, her telepathy can be a brutal weapon. The last person she wants around her is Oliver and as her family takes over their home, and Caleb and Alex become the only ones she trusts, Oliver is pretty much kicked to the curb, unwelcome in his own home.

Oliver will do anything to right the wrongs of his past, but his only ally becomes the one woman he should stay far away from. Should Oliver go with his conscience and avenge the murder of his best friend, bringing the killer to justice or should he keep trying to save his marriage, even though he feels he has lost Kai forever?

I think Kourtney Heinz has risen her writing bar even higher as she tells a suspense filled tale of a torturous love story that is haunting in its tumultuous and stark ferocity. Highway Thirteen to Manhattan is chilling as we witness dynamic changes in a once loving relationship that has become a tangled web of interference, mistrust and supernatural darkness. Ms. Heintz has taken a troubled love story and added hot pokers of suspense, heartache and the unraveling of one woman who has mysteriously been given new abilities that border on pure uncontrolled evil. As each character is further developed, Ms. Heintz is not afraid to make daring changes in their persona or their circumstances. Intriguing, chaotic and complex, this tale just grows more involved with each addition to the series.

Do you like suspense? The supernatural? Unsolved crimes? Characters with their own agendas who will stop at nothing to get what they want? No longer being sure of who the bad guys are? Romantic chaos? Kourtney Heintz has whipped up one heck of a read that will keep you guessing at every turn!

I received an ARC edition from Kourtney Heintz and Aurea Blue Press in exchange for my honest review.
