“Some relationships have hidden truths that few can survive. Only us strong ones can dare listen to, and have the balls to stay and bear witness to, the result of irrevocable damages. So tell me, Maverick, are you one of the strong?”

Maverick, unfortunately, is well aware of Tucker’s meaning. Mav has recently lost his father, his mother is slipping into a depression, and his little sister is in desperate need of a parental figure. But now he’s losing his heart to Tucker’s mysterious sister, Delilah. As Maverick squints into the sun, looking at the beauty standing in front of the lake, he wonders if his heart is crazy for begging him to take on yet another tragedy.

Steal Me (Haunted Roads #1)India R. Adams is one of those authors whose style is truly unique. It stands out in the very placement of her words, while the tone of her books resonates from start to finish in perfect clarity. Get ready for another heart-felt read filled with tragedy, love, strength and the determination to make it through the darkness into the sunshine beyond. We can’t always control what happens in life, but we can control how we react, as well as what our actions are. Steal Me is about taking that journey through the darkness and refusing to be denied that walk in the sunshine.

When Maverick’s father died, his mother fell apart and he became his younger sister’s surrogate parent. She became his world as much as he became her hero. That isn’t the job of a teen in high school, yet he did with pride and love. When he finds a mysterious girl who seems to walk around in a haze of sorrow, his heart tells him he needs her, but his head is saying they are both too damaged to create a relationship that will give them both what they need.

Delilah lives with soul deep grief and guilt, but there is something about Maverick’s smiling and teasing demeanor that both excites her and repulses her at the same time, but how could he know how undeserving of love she is? Kind of like in second grade when the boy who likes you pulls your hair to get your attention, not subtle, not romantic, but it works, right?

As love blossoms, the healing begins for both Delilah and Maverick as they have moments of honesty, shared raw pain and the sweetness of a young love blooming. This is their time to be young, enjoy life and the friends they have, their pasts will never change, their future is uncertain, but love seems to have taken them into a world filled with laughter and sunshine at last! But can it last? Are they strong enough to traverse the storms of life?

What I found to be a beautiful side journey in their romance was Delilah’s brother Tucker’s telling of their past life prior to meeting Maverick, ALL of the events that made her the broken girl Maverick was determined to heal. But the story he told of their lives together as a couple, spanning time was truly touching and emotional as he continues the story they could not tell.

Once again, India R. Adams takes story-telling to a new level as I cried, laughed and even shed some tears for one of the most memorable books I have ever read. I cannot recommend India R. Adams’ writing highly enough. Just come armed with tissues, or maybe paper towels as she shares the highlights and lowlights of high school, family and love. I think this author is trying to kill me...

I received this copy from India R. Adams in exchange for my honest review.
