"They killed my parents. They took my name. They imprisoned me in darkness. I would not be broken."

Viola, a child sold to pay her father's debts, has lost everything: her mother, her home, and her identity. Thrown into a life among criminals, she has no time for grief as she endures the brutal training of an apprentice thief. The Night Guild molds an innocent waif into a cunning, agile outlaw skilled in the thieves' trade. She has only one choice: steal enough to pay her debts.
The cutthroat streets of Praamis will test her mettle, and she must learn to dodge the City Guards or swing from a hangman's rope. But a more dangerous foe lurks within the guild walls. A sadistic rival apprentice, threatened by her strength, is out for blood.
What hope does one girl have in a world of ruthless men?

From Andy Peloquin
Just One Choice
There are very few people in real, modern life who can be classified as what we know as "heroes" or "villains". Save for the occasional genocidal dictator or millionaire who leaves their entire fortune to the needy, the majority of the 7+ billion people in the world today fall somewhere squarely between the two extremes.
And yet, in my mind, there is only one thing that separates a hero from a villain: a single choice.
At its core, all stories come down to choices. Everything from where the protagonists decide to go to how they choose to react to obstacles is a choice. But it's that one little choice that makes them either a hero or a villain.
Let's put ourselves into the mind of a fantasy soldier, for an example. This is your ordinary grunt soldier, with no fancy title or wealth to his name. He is simply another soldier fighting to survive in a war he didn't start, against enemies he had no choice but to fight.
He's fighting in the battle line, and a comrade to his left falls. He's given a split second to decide: lift up the fallen comrade and risk his own life, or step back and let his comrade die.
Let's put ourselves into the mind of a knight. He has titles, wealth, and fame, but there are people with more power and money than he. When he's faced with the decision to seize power or honor his oaths, what does he do?
Small decisions, possibly even small consequences, but they are the only thing that separate a "hero" from a "villain".
The hero will usually make the choice that involves sacrifice, courage, honor, duty, loyalty, love, and service. The villain will choose selfishness, power, riches, saving his/her own life, convenience, and desire.
It all comes down to that single choice. Someone who has made a litany of terrible choices their whole life can still be a hero when it counts. The knight in shining armor can be the most despicable of villains when he makes the wrong choice.
Just one choice: it's all that separates heroes from villains.

I am, first and foremost, a storyteller and an artist--words are my palette. Fantasy is my genre of choice, and I love to explore the darker side of human nature through the filter of fantasy heroes, villains, and everything in between. I'm also a freelance writer, a book lover, and a guy who just loves to meet new people and spend hours talking about my fascination for the worlds I encounter in the pages of fantasy novels.

Fantasy provides us with an escape, a way to forget about our mundane problems and step into worlds where anything is possible. It transcends age, gender, religion, race, or lifestyle--it is our way of believing what cannot be, delving into the unknowable, and discovering hidden truths about ourselves and our world in a brand new way.

 Fiction at its very best!

Child of the Night Guild by Andy Peloquin
(Queen of Thieves, #1)

Child of the Night Guild (Queen of Thieves #1)Andy Peloquin will leave you breathless! When that last page came, I was set to start over just keep this tale going. Andy Peloquin’s CHILD OF THE NIGHT GUILD is going to rock your world!

Viola was just a small child when she became the fastest way for her father, a broken man, to pay off his debts to THEM. First they took her name, then her dignity and finally, all that made Viola’s soul. After years of torment and training, she is Seven, and she belongs to the Night Guild, lock, stock and soul. The scared and lonely little girl is gone and in her place is a fierce young woman who is skilled in the art of thievery. Now it is time for her to pay her dues and her debts. Agile, formidable and clever, Seven has few friends, has been the object of bullies through her apprenticeship and must work twice as hard as the boys all around her. BUT. THEY. WILL. NOT. BREAK HER.

Graduation from her apprenticeship finds her chosen to go to the house of Hawks where she learns the freedom of traveling high above the streets across the rooftops of Praamis. Life is as good as it can be for the only girl in a male dominated world, but when a brutish nightmare leaves her broken and battered, she will prove to everyone that she is like a Phoenix rising from the ashes of loss and pain. But at what cost?

Andy Peloquin has taken fantasy to a new level. You hear the words, magnetic, non-stop and gut-clenching often, but every one of these words applies in full force to this unforgettable tale of one small girl who beat the odds, and never let anyone break her soul. CHILD OF THE NIGHT GUILD maybe Andy Peloquin’s finest work yet! It takes bold writing to bring life to a bold story of survival and this author has succeeded and then some! No matter what genre you read, this one should be on your MUST READ lists!
