The ancient slave mongers who killed the adults and enslaved the children have angered a more advanced species of aliens. Composed of pure energy, this superior race has attacked the Anunnaki home world and is now setting a course for Earth.
The energy-based aliens believe in a system of trial by battle. They seek to push Shane and his friends into the arena with the ones who killed their parents. The results will determine if humans deserve to live, or if they should be made extinct as well. It's up to Shane to keep his friends—and an army of kids who look up to him—alive. They'll be fighting not just for their own lives, but for the fate of the entire human race. Can the enemy of Shane's enemy be his friend, or is this just another species determined to exploit and destroy them?

Darkest Days by N.W. Harris
Darkest DaysTheir youth was stolen, their families gone, but the determination to survive drives children everywhere to fight back against the aliens who have murdered, plundered and enslaved them. Have these monsters gone unnoticed in the cosmos, left to wreak havoc and destroy Earth? Could one of their own worst nightmares followed them only to use both the Anunnaki and the humans as puppets in a twisted game of war where death may be the only victor? What cosmic god has given these mysterious aliens the power or the right to play judge, jury and executioner on the battlefield of our planet? Will they determine that humans have a right to live and thrive because these children have been forced to kill or is there more to their interference than meets the eye?

Shane has been the reluctant hero, the leader and for a young man in his teens, he is a testament to the best Earth has to offer. His compassion, ability to work as a team and to take the weight of the world on his shoulders are the things legends are made of. Follow him and his core group, as he galvanizes both rebel aliens and the world’s youth to fight the superior races to save the planet and its inhabitants from annihilation. Young heroes will die, be maimed or enslaved, but look to him alone for salvation.

Is it too much to expect? Is anyone capable of this responsibility? Can mere children conquer the invaders and beat them at their own game? On a planet where ‘adults’ were hell bent to destroy each other, it is the youth of the planet that are called on to save it. Do the aliens know something we don’t? I actually cried at one point, call it the grandma in me.

I have followed, read and re-read this series from book one and N.W. Harris has launched the bar for each addition to this incredible series into the stratosphere. DARKEST DAYS is the crowning glory and bittersweet ending to a journey I have loved every step of the way. Written to be Young Adult safe, N.W. Harris has created lifelike characters anyone who has taken breath could relate to. He does not tell us a story, he gives us a world to live in, fear to make our hearts race and action that we are part of. He gives us insurmountable odds and dares us to be part of each step. THIS is what reading is about, these are characters to remember and this is an author who should be on every readers must read list. Give your kids a world where they can rise to the occasion and feel empowered to take on the universe. Give them a gift of reading that will rock their worlds and feed their imaginations!

Okay, yes, this could be my all-time favorite YA post-apocalyptic series, it never gets old and now that it is over, I actually feel like I just wasn’t ready, proving N.W. Harris is a brilliant author who knows how to keep his readers enthralled.

I received this copy from N.W. Harris in exchange for my honest review. Honestly, I had to read it twice, it is THAT good!
