Flings With Rings by Katerina Sestakova Novotna

Flings With Rings: Book One in The Twisted Rings SeriesFlings With Rings

My rating: 2 stars

Evelina is a Hawaiian beauty with a strange hobby: she collects engagement rings from successful men without intending to marry them. She is showing her collection to a pious friend while revealing her secret tricks and opinions on men. Evelina's motivation to share her life story seems as mysterious as the reason why her friend keeps listening and asking questions despite their strong disagreement. Will Evelina's behaviour ever catch up on her?

Flings With Rings by Katerina Sestakova Novotna

Flings With Rings: Book One in The Twisted Rings SeriesEvelina is “THAT FRIEND.” The world revolves the fantasy of herself, and no conversation could possibly be more important than one that is led by and all about her. This time she is regaling our narrator with her “engagement ring” collection, yep, that’s right, proof of her conquests, of the men who have supposedly knelt at the altar of her favors.

Evelina is opinionated about marriage and men and sex and pretty much anything. She comes across as both severely needy and insecure or a loose and wanton woman who is heartless. I say it is a bit of both. As she attempts to rile her friend through shock tactics, her attitude, language and the coarseness of her presentation seems contrived to gain the attention she so sorely craves. A clear case of using one’s looks to get on in a lonely and unfulfilling life with nothing of substance left to give the world due to failure to grow from within.

FLINGS WITH RINGS by Katerina Sestakova Novotna wasn’t quite satire or psychological horror, wasn’t believable as a conversation between “friends,” and didn’t quite make a social statement about the institution of marriage or engagement. I did, however find a telling example of the drudgery of selfish indulgence for a lonely soul. I try in my reviews to find the positive in either an author's style or the tale itself. I can honestly say that this author has achieved a level of darkness that many will enjoy. Perhaps this just wasn’t the book for me.

I received a review copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.
