She’s benched her heart. His is on injured reserve.

Burned-out and broken-hearted statistics professor, Dr. Shelby Wentworth, returns to her hometown determined to escape the disgrace of a nasty divorce, shake off the taint of her ruined career, and start over. This time she swears she’ll live by the rule ‘don’t get your honey where you get your money.’ But an unexpected reunion with her former high school crush, not only makes her rethink her decision to return home, but also tempts her to break her one rule.

After a career-ending injury and his own disheartening divorce, former NFL quarterback, Nash Taylor, returned to his hometown to become the head coach of the Sterling University Bobcats. When his childhood best friend literally runs into him in the faculty parking lot, he thinks maybe it’s time to put his heart back in the game.

Nash, in the hunt for a division championship, enlists the number-crunching Shelby as his secret weapon. But Nash’s plan to help Shelby regain not only her confidence, but also her financial security backfires and lands Shelby in the same hot water that brought her home in the first place.

Will Shelby let the past dictate the future, or will Nash win her heart on his way to winning the championship?

(Sterling University, #2)

Winning Dr. WentworthShe was broken, disgraced and out of options. Going home to her small town was like a giant step backwards, but Dr. Shelby Wentworth needed time to re-group after a disastrous marriage, brutal divorce and the public humiliation of watching her career get flushed down the toilet. Going back to her roots isn’t part of her life plan, but a position at Sterling University was a gift from a friend and she knew it.

He was an NFL quarterback whose career and marriage ended in one devastating moment. Now Nash Taylor is back home as Sterling University’s Head football coach.

These two best childhood friends were bound to run into each other eventually, but who would think it would be literally, bumper to bumper and from that point on, it was game over when those childhood crushes re-kindled into something more, but will Shelby’s past run interference on romance and true love?

Rebecca Heflin’s WINNING DR. WENTWORTH is about finding your way in a world that seems to be holding you down, discovering the meaning of trust and accepting the helping hand held out to you in the name of love. Talk about a sweet romance, who doesn’t like childhood crushes to mature into something worth sharing for a lifetime?

I have to say, Shelby is a hot mess. She is broke, in debt and struggling with her self-esteem and sense of failure. Nash gets it, he’s been there, but has come out on the other side, a little battered, but so much wiser and more content. Finding Shelby back in his life was like a dream come true, even if she feels her life is nothing but a nightmare. A numbers genius, she can crunch stats and probabilities, but even she couldn’t calculate the odds that one nightmare could lead to a dream-come-true.

A light romance with a feel good vibe, there is no over angsty situations, a sense of community among friends and of course, love, proving that no matter how far you wander, there is no place like home-or true love.

I received an ARC edition from Rebecca Heflin in exchange for my honest and voluntary review.
