Life just keeps slapping Mary in the face.

She had it rough growing up, and when it finally looks like she’s getting her life firmly back on track, breaking up with her boyfriend starts a string of events that threatens to bring Mary to her knees.

Fortunately, there are good people in her life who will do everything in their powers to help her when she needs it. Mary’s girlfriends, Jinx and Wilder are there for her, and after she’s rescued from being kidnapped, Carson and Bo take her into their home, becoming the family she always wanted but never seemed to get to keep.

As the group around Hawker Johns hunt the men who wanted to trade Mary for the valuable crystal from the mountains, she slowly recovers. Then life throws her another few curveballs, and it looks like she’ll lose everything yet again.

Mary is resilient and used to restarting her life from nothing, but when it looks like she’ll also lose the man she loves, maybe the happy girl has just had enough?

Picture this is the third book in the Birds of a Feather series, a young adult/coming of age series with paranormal elements, full of laughter, mystery, and romance.

Picture thisSometimes it just seems that life for an innocent can be heartbreaking day after day, year after year and for Mary, pain, loneliness and rejection has been the theme of her young life. Orphaned at a young age, abandoned by family, abused in foster homes, she took to the streets, where survival was as much luck as skill. Kidnapped, held in trade for a mysterious crystal, and freed by a rough and tumble group who is more than they appear. Now she has friends, real friends who stand by her, no matter what and she has finally found a place to call home for both herself and her heart.

Jinx, Wilder and their families and friends are back as these special people stand together against evil and anyone who would dare hurt their own and Mary has become one of them, even with the secrets she keeps hidden deep within her soul. Could it be that Mary has finally found peace and family? Has she found a man who will stand by her, protect her and keep her safe, body, mind and soul? There is evil coming at her from all directions and the turmoil is nonstop, from art forgery to jealousy to guns blazing as the angst level soars and emotions run high to over-flowing all around her.

Lena North’s Birds of a Feather series continues with Mary’s story, a tale of finding a place to belong and learning to trust in those around her to always have her back, her heart and her life well-protected, like a precious jewel.

PICTURE THIS brings a girl with the soul of an artist home to a place that opened its arms and a man who opened his heart.

Lena North never let up from page to page as Mary’s story is told bringing action in the form of mental and emotional turmoil, to a point I was feeling as overwhelmed as the characters. Certainly a great addition to the series that took a slightly different path than its predecessors.

I received an ARC edition from Lena North in exchange for my honest review.
