The Distance Between Us by Jill Breugem
Even the most confident among us can have wounds that fester instead of healing. Ally is that confident young woman whose heart is scarred and battered. Her trust level is at zero and even though Olly seems to return her feelings, she fights the truth that is right before her eyes. They both have pasts that involve pain, but Ally cannot seem to move forward, is it because she has unfinished affairs of the heart from her past or is it that Olly seems too good to be true? The more Olly opens up about his feelings, the harder Ally pushes him away, until she finally pushes him right out of her life. Is that what she really wanted? Her life is full, with a new business, glamorous friends and what appears to be the world at her fingertips, but does she really have everything she needs?
What of Olly? He took a chance on Ally and she didn’t want him badly enough. Will living across the Atlantic tear her from his heart or his memories of what they could have had?
Jill Breugem’s THE DISTANCE BETWEEN US is a sometimes frustrating tale of romance between two successful people who have everything but what they need, that special someone to love, that special place where they can trust that they will not be crushed or tossed aside. Ms. Breugem crushes that assumption that people who are strong on the outside must have inner strength as well, no insecurities allowed. Ally is an emotional hot mess, (yes, I wanted to give her a good shake), to Olly’s calm demeanor that exudes strength. (And trust me, he needed it!)
A quick read that spotlights both the triumphs and failures of love with a touch of quirkiness and pain, outbursts and even heartfelt determination! Proof that somewhere out there, there is someone for everyone!
