Death of Darkness by Dianne Duvall
Immortal Guardians Book #9
Release Date: August 20, 2019
Seth has led the Immortal Guardians for thousands of years. With them fighting by his side, he has protected humans from psychotic vampires, defeated corrupt mercenary armies, defended military bases under attack, and more. But the latest enemy to rise against the Immortal Guardians has proven to be a formidable one, wielding almost as much power as Seth. His goal is simple. He wants to watch the world burn. And he will use every means at his disposal to accomplish it. Seth and his Immortal Guardians have succeeded thus far in staving off Armageddon despite heartbreaking losses. But they have never before faced such danger. Seth has only one wish: to protect his Immortal Guardians family and ensure the continuation of humanity by defeating his foe. But then Leah walks into his life and sparks a new desire.

Leah Somerson has suffered losses of her own. It has taken her a long time to rebuild her life and find some semblance of peace. Then one night a tall, dark, powerful immortal with what appears to be the weight of the world on his shoulders stumbles into her shop, and everything changes. Peace and contentment are no longer enough. Now she wants more. She wants to find happiness. She wants to erase the darkness in Seth’s eyes and replace it with love and laughter. She knows he’s different in ways that make most fear him. Even some of his immortal brethren keep a careful distance. But Leah will not. Nor will she shy away when danger strikes.

 Death of Darkness Playlist

Hello! Thank you for joining me. I’m very happy to be here at Tome Tender, celebrating the upcoming release of DEATH OF DARKNESS. If you like a lot of action, passion, humor, and romance in your stories, then I think you’ll enjoy Seth and Leah’s book. And if you’re new to my Immortal Guardians series, don’t worry. Each novel and novella can be read as a stand-alone. You’ll just know more about the secondary characters if you read them in order.

One of the questions I’m often asked by readers is what music I listen to while I write. I actually almost never listen to music when I’m writing. If I do, I inevitably end up signing along with whatever song is playing and lose focus. But there have been a few exceptions. If a particular song plays a substantial role in a scene, for example, I often listen to that song while I write and edit the scene. But even though I usually steer clear of music while writing, there are quite a few songs that bring characters or scenes from my books to mind. Here is a list of songs I associate with my Immortal Guardians family and DEATH OF DARKNESS:

1) Down With the Sickness—Disturbed. I associate this one with the entire Immortal Guardians series since the vampires and immortals in it are both infected with a virus that lends them their strength, speed, incredible regenerative capabilities, etc. After I wrote NIGHT UNBOUND, it also made me think of Zach. J

2) No Lie (featuring Dua Lipa)—Sean Paul. This one makes me think of Seth and Leah, but I can’t say why. You’ll know when you read the book or listen to the audiobook. ;-)

3) Monster—Skillet. I think of both Seth and Zach when I hear this one, thanks to NIGHT UNBOUND. It is now Seth’s ringtone.

4) Breathe—Jax Jones. This one makes me think of Seth. I actually listened to this one a lot during the months I wrote DEATH OF DARKNESS. But it also reminds me of Krysta (the heroine of DARKNESS RISES). After years of hunting and slaying every vampire she could find, she couldn’t understand her sudden fascination with Étienne. And Étienne had to admit that falling hard for a woman who believed immortals were no different from psychotic vampires was unwise.

5) Familia (featuring Bantu)—Nicki Minaj & Anuel AA. This one I now associate with two characters. The first is Seth. As their self-appointed leader, Seth considers all Immortal Guardians family. And you do NOT mess with his family. :-D It also makes me think of Eliana, an Immortal Guardian who is first introduced in DEATH OF DARKNESS.

6) Before I’m Dead—The Kidney Thieves. This song never fails to make me think of Immortal Guardian Lisette d’Alençon (heroine of NIGHT UNBOUND).

7) I Know You—Craig David Ft. Bastille. My Immortal Guardians family is such a tightly knit group, managing to laugh and tease even in grim circumstances. So this one I associate with the whole crew.

8) Bamboleo—Gipsy Kings. This and other songs from the Sing movie soundtrack now make me think of Leah. You’ll see why in DEATH OF DARKNESS. ;-)

9) The Sound of Silence—Disturbed. I admit it. I really like Disturbed. And I love their rendition of this one. It makes me think of Seth.

10) Sunshine Superman—Donovan. This song also makes me think of Seth, the leader of the Immortal Guardians, because of the Superman and Green Lantern line.

11) Be My Life’s Companion—The Mills Brothers. Music has always played a large role in my life, and I enjoy music from many eras. Immortal Guardians fans (and readers who find him intriguing in The Gifted Ones series) may be interested in knowing that this song brought scenes from Seth’s book to mind long before I sat down to write it. :-)

12) It’s the End of the World as We Know It—R.E.M. Zach, one of the bad boys in the series, uses this as his ringtone. But even if he didn’t, this song would bring to mind the escalation of the conflict in my Immortal Guardians series. The villain in DARKNESS DAWNS started the proverbial snowball rolling down the hill. And with each book the foes have become more dangerous and the possible consequences of not defeating them more grim.

So what songs on your playlist?

For Immortal Guardians fans: Are there any songs that make you think of Seth or the series?
