Lexia Luccen is a seventeen-year-old girl with a fiery power that is slowly destroying the last fragments of her sanity. Having lost her abusive father, Lexia is left scarred from the way he treated her and by the grief of his death. When she accidentally uses her ability to create a devastating explosion that takes many lives, she is moved from her life of solitude into the hectic youth facility that is Lucida.

Lucida is no ordinary youth facility. It is a secretly run technological agency for supernatural wayward youth, set up to teach them how to control their abilities after they have caused disturbances in society. These youths think that once they have been reformed, they will be freed. However, the truth is a very different story.

Lies, love, and more death await Lexia at Lucida, and she soon realizes that this facility is not quite what it seems. Now she knows she must make a choice: does she finally give up to the darkness that slowly consumes her—like her father did—or does she follow the firestorm that runs through her veins and for once in her life, battle for something?

Time is running out. Lexia needs to make her decision fast, before Lucida makes it for her.

The Damned Society: Smoke and Mirrors by L.J. Elliott

You think being a teen was tough? What if you had a powerful gift you can’t control, what if it can kill? Lexia has lost the last of her family and control over her powers, now she is being sent to a special training school for others like her, but is Lucida really all it appears to be or is there something darker and more sinister lurking in its hallowed halls?

Lexia must decide to smother her powers or use them to fight for all who are like her?

THE DAMNED SOCIETY: SMOKE AND MIRRORS by L.J. Elliott is an engaging young adult read filled with the magic of the supernatural, a main character who does not have all the answers, but is willing to do whatever it takes to find them.

Well written, filled with action, always in motion, the pages fly by to the end in a flash! Lexia is strong, even after facing some of the worst things that life has to offer and with the mindset of a teen coming of age, she is a powerful character!

Wonderful YA fantasy, gripping, a little dark at times, emotionally charged and definitely worth taking a look at! L.J. Elliott has a hit here!

I received a complimentary copy from L.J. Elliott! This is my honest and voluntary review.
