For Will Innis and his daughter, Devlin, the loss was catastrophic. Every day for the past five years, they wonder where she is, if she is—Will’s wife, Devlin’s mother—because Rachael Innis vanished one night during an electrical storm on a lonely desert highway, and suspected of her death, Will took his daughter and fled.

Now, Will and Devlin live under different names in another town, having carved out a new life for themselves as they struggle to maintain some semblance of a family.

When one night, a beautiful, hard-edged FBI agent appears on their doorstep, they fear the worst, but she hasn’t come to arrest Will. “I know you’re innocent,” she tells him, “because Rachael wasn’t the first…or the last.”
Desperate for answers, Will and Devlin embark on a terrifying journey that spans four thousand miles from the desert southwest to the wilds of Alaska, heading unaware into the heart of a nightmare, because the truth is infinitely worse than they ever imagined.

 Snowbound by Blake Crouch

SnowboundIt happened in the blink of an eye, one minute they were a happy family, the next Rachael is missing and Will is the chief suspect. What will their young, fragile daughter do on her own without either of them to watch over her? Will is left with one answer; run, fast and far and avoid putting down roots too firmly. Even the best plans can get waylaid when an FBI agent finds them, in spite of their new identities. Kaylan doesn’t want to arrest Will or take Devlin away, she doesn’t even have the authority to do so. Kaylan wants more, she wants Will’s help in finding both his wife and her sister, because she has a very good idea of what happened to them. Five years have passed, could Rachael still be alive?

How far would you go to find a loved one? What would you do? SNOWBOUND by Blake Crouch tells us just how far people will go to find the ones they love. It tells an almost impossible tale of daring, danger and most likely just plain dumb luck and true grit as two unlikely people uncover and infiltrate a sex trafficking ring in hopes of finding answers, if not the people they seek.

Follow a rapid-fire chase across countries, feel the tension, believe in the unfathomable and the power of love to face danger head on. Sometimes a little too unbelievable, but still a riveting and gut-clenching tale that will raise the hackles of readers, this tale has moments of vicious hatred, dogged determination and some wicked crazy heroics. Sit back and hang on for a ride that will most definitely entertain, and remember, this is fiction, the author has a story to tell and his characters are on a mission they never knew they would be presented with, closure at the least, a nightmare ended at best. Then, ask yourself again, how far would you go to save a loved one, there just might be a little Rambo in all of us.

A fatal car crash. The sole survivor. And the dark hooded stranger that wants her dead.

When a terrible accident—not accident—stole my parents’ lives, my whole perfect life changed. My memories are hazy, and there are scars on my wrists. I’ve been locked away for my own protection…until I prove my sanity, until I lie. There was no hooded figure on the road that day, no one standing over me as I lay paralyzed watching my parents burn.

I am Cassidy Lockheart…20-year-old orphan.

Determined to free my caged mind, I find myself far away on an unexpected trip to help return my forgotten past. The snow was part of my life before, but now it’s like a blank slate, until an avalanche changes everything. But I’m not alone. These other ‘lucky’ trip winners may not be the strangers they pretend to be. And my hooded attacker…I see him everywhere.

Is this real? Or delusion caused by head trauma?

Either way, I’m being watched. I can sense it. I can feel it. Someone is after me; maybe they’re after us all. The avalanche was no accident. It was staged to deliver us to this abandoned place. A place where the walls whisper dark secrets of a sinister past…a past no one can escape. Trapped, this snow won’t let up…it won’t let us leave. My lost memories hold clues, but they’re buried so deep, polluted and twisted in my every waking nightmare. What is real? I don’t have the answers. But I need them. Time is ticking and if I don’t figure this all out soon it will be too late.

The past is coming for us all…and it wants blood.

Nerve Damage by J.L. Myers

Nerve DamageCassidy Lockheart barely remembers the crash that took her parents lives. Her mind had splintered as she lay there watching her parents burn. They say her mind conjured the stranger, they say she will be healed when she believes that, so she lied, because she knows…and she runs from everyone, including herself.

It would be the mysterious trip she won that would bring her face to face with that figure from her past and the forgotten hell she endured. An avalanche, a deserted home in the woods, a locked room that told the story of a child terrified, alone and abused and death. So much death.

Someone is killing the other “winners” of this fateful trip and Cassidy has no idea whom she can trust. A child’s diary and their pained artwork will unravel a story of horror beyond imagining and somehow Cassidy will uncover the truth or die trying as the stranger from her past seeks retribution for the small child who once lived only to be an object of abuse, rape and torture while those who could help her turned a blind eye.

Nerve Damage by J.L. Myers is about as hair-raising as a dark suspense can get! Steeped in an ominous mystery, veiled in shrouded details from the past, this tale will have even the hale and hearty sitting back to take a breath. Lots of gore, lots of blood and unspeakable acts, if you are looking for a tale to white-knuckle your way through, this could be it. J.L. Myers has horror down pat, and the setting and atmosphere ramps up the tension one hundred-fold. Complex and razor taut from start to finish!

#1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan cuts straight to the heart of a man who stalks the shadows in an intoxicating Leopard novel.

Though born into a leopard’s lair in the bayou, Joshua Tregre’s fighting skills were honed in the rainforests of Borneo. Sleek and deadly, he’s the perfect man to take over a crime syndicate back home in Louisiana’s lush swamplands. His razor sharp instincts give him an edge in the violent underworld he knows so well, but even the watchful leopard inside him isn’t prepared for the danger that comes from the girl next door…

She is a woman who can create beauty out of thin air—and out of the ruins of her own life. The games that dangerous men play have taken their toll on her, but she is bent, not broken. And it’s her fierce spirit that’s like a lure to Joshua, a temptation he can’t resist—even if it means bringing his true nature into the light…
Leopard's Blood (Leopard People #10)Leopard's Blood by Christine Feehan

Set in the bayou, Leopard’s Blood bring us a fantastical paranormal romance that will touch your heart and have you wishing for more.

I don’t think Feehan has ever written two characters more perfect for each other. Yes, it does start with the insta-lust/love but as the plot develops you can truly see the reason why Sonia and Joshua are meant for each other. Don’t get me wrong, there is plenty of heat and steam we’ve come to expect from Feehan but in the end, the couple REALLY works.

Feehan was the author of my very first adult paranormal romance read. Now it is 3000+ books later and she is still a go-to author for me. Especially when I'm looking for a marvelous paranormal romance with a substantial plot and world-building that all providing an amazing visual and vibrant book vacation.

I received an ARC copy of Leopard's Blood from Berkley Publishing Group. This is my honest and voluntary review. Leopard's Blood is set for publication Oct 24, 2017.

Duty and prophecy get in the way of everything.
All I ever wanted to do was read my books, play my sports, and help people. Life and prophecy had other things in mind.
Helping people is what I do; as an empath and semi-frequent telepath, I can easily sense and understand people’s needs and emotions. Sometimes even before they do. Being able to read everyone’s thoughts and feelings all the time can drive me crazy with anxiety, but that moment when I can finally make someone’s life better makes everything worth it.
Unfortunately, I’m also the next in line to rule the galaxy, I’m the only diplomat most planets will listen to, assassins try to kill me on an annoyingly regular basis, and a much-vaunted Prophecy has decreed that I’m going to die. Oh, and someone blew up my home planet.
Kind of a lot to deal with, right?
Too bad I just got another problem: a big, irritating, overbearing bodyguard with serious anger management issues.
And I think I’m falling for him.
“Great, Clee,” I said. “Job’s all yours. I’m going to bed.”
Kenzi covered a snicker as Synie rolled her eyes. “Princess, you know the Yurilians will only talk to you.”
I leaned back in my chair and stretched my neck. “Yeah, yeah.”
Kenzi tilted his head at Synie. “Why will they only talk to the princess?”
Synie shifted uncomfortably. “King Cepheus was….” She paused, searching for the right word.
“A jerk,” Clee supplied unhelpfully.
“Clee!” Synie barked. “That’s practically treason.”
Clee shrugged. “Yep. But I already told him that to his face. He agreed with me.”
Cepheus had a weak spot for Clee, as did we all; her tendency to tell the truth and lighten the mood at the same time was curiously refreshing. And she was right: Cepheus was a terrible diplomat.
With another reproachful glare at Clee, who was no longer paying attention, Synie continued, “King Cepheus was less than sympathetic toward their grain dispute with us. Andromeda smoothed things over and managed to talk them down from outright war.”
Kenzi’s eyes bugged. “They were going to declare war on us, just for some grain?”
“Food is a common reason people go to war,” I said. “Or, rather, lack of it. When people starve, they feel they have nothing left to lose.” Perseus’s words came back to me: people who have nothing to lose, fear nothing.
That was true on a global scale as well as a personal one, I supposed.
Kenzi’s dark eyes turned to me and he gave me an awed smile. I really hated being an object of awe. I liked doing my job—a lot—and I loved helping people, but at heart, I was an introvert who wanted as little attention as possible.
Just my luck, I got the most high-profile job in the galaxy.

Death Incarnate by Tamara Rose Blodgett (Death Series, #9)

Death Incarnate (#9): A Dark Dystopian Paranormal Romance (The Death Series)This is it. The end of the Death series and I have to say, OUCH! We’ve watched the original kids grow up, get married and now their kids are wreaking havoc, intentional or not! From parallel worlds and back, this time out, the very existence of young Deegan Hart lay in the balance of every universe they have traversed as she blinks her family into other worlds, witnesses what happened the night her zombie, Mitchell failed to save his family and discovers he is not the murderer he was thought to be. It may take more than luck to foil a twisted fate and to right the lines of time.

As the generations of the Hart family and friends gather together to fight the evil that has blanketed their world, we witness miracles, and hope for what was once a bleak and desolate future!

What a way to end an era of fabulous reading! Tamara Rose Blodgett’s DEATH INCARNATE brings back all of the wry humor, the wit and the camaraderie of her characters, including a favorite of mine, Gramps, who never fails to steal each scene he is in, the cranky old rebel!
Not only have the characters grown up, but the series has gone from young adult to new adult with a dash of spicy heat and passion! Will I miss this series? Nope, I will re-read it until I know every book by “Hart.”

Ms. Blodgett’s keen sense of humor and her ability to give her characters free license with their dialogue is part of the charm and draw for me! One never knows what will pop out of these characters’ mouths and that is pure Blodgett running free! So yes, this is a wrap, a great finish that, while having “grown up” through the years, has never strayed from the feel or the atmosphere of high energy, high conflict and memorable characters.

The Mackenzies gather for a clan Christmas and Hogmanay in Scotland. In the chaos of preparations for the celebration--the first of Hart and Eleanor's married life--one of Ian's Ming bowls gets broken, and the family scrambles to save the day. Daniel busily runs a betting ring for everything from the hour Eleanor's baby will arrive, to whether Mac's former-pugilist valet can win a boxing match. Ian begins a new obsession, and Beth fears that the loss of one of his precious bowls has made him withdraw once more into his private world.

(Mackenzies & McBrides #4.5)

A Mackenzie Family Christmas: The Perfect Gift (MacKenzies & McBrides, #4.5)Ahh, the timeless Holiday traditions of family coming together! The accidents, incidents, craziness and chaos of loved ones gathering to celebrate another year, another life and the joy of family. Seems that even the brawny Mackenzie clan has its ups and downs when a huge gathering is planned.

A Mackenzie Family Christmas: The Perfect Gift by Jennifer Ashley is a short, sweet and fun holiday read that proves nothing is better than having family, with all of their flaws, together to share in the joys of the season, even if some of them are oh, so naughty, which can be pretty nice!

I haven’t read the series, but when I realized I did have this Christmas novella, I thought, what better way to meet the family of Scots and the women who tamed them! A quick read just for fun!

Penelope Wryter's life has been a mess ever since her sister committed suicide a year ago. Now Pen's hooked on Fix, an illegal drug that makes her feel, think, and see differently. The hallucinations are intense, but there's one vision that keeps Pen coming back for more--Nate. He's the only person who cares about her. Too bad he's just a side effect of the drug. Pen knows she's going nowhere fast. She's desperate to change. But when she tries to say goodbye to Nate, he professes his love for her making her more confused than ever. Then, when a girl from school goes missing during a bad Fix trip, Pen realizes she may be in a lot more danger than she ever imagined. Unless Pen straightens up and faces reality quick, she might be the next missing girl on the list.

 Fix Me by Lisa Cronkhite

Fix MeDrugs, addiction and the ease that minors can obtain their next high, their next escape into oblivion. This is Penelope’s story of loss, emotional and physical dependence and her fear of recovery, another form of loss in itself. Her sister committed suicide, and we wonder why Penelope doesn’t take that as a wake-up call to sobriety, but we forget she is a teen, emotionally immature and worse, floundering in a dysfunctional one parent family.

FIX ME by Lisa M. Cronkhite is dark, heavy with tension and a stifling atmosphere as we witness one teenaged addict’s life through her twisted thoughts and skewed perceptions. Penelope’s perspective is often mired in the haze of a drug-induced fog. The illogical becomes logical, the unreal becomes believable and the thought of never having her next fix is terrifying. Will the ghosts that haunt Penelope cut her loose and allow her to get clean or is it too late for her, no matter who has her back?

There is no great epiphany for Penelope, she knows throughout this tale she has a problem, she caves to her weakness and her craving as easily as a knife cuts butter. Dark and moving at a ponderous pace, this is a stark and raw tale of human weakness as mere children become willing lambs to slaughter in the hands of addictive drugs and the lies they tell themselves. While I felt Pen’s inner turmoil, it took little for her to repeat her mistakes over and over, at any cost. She never came across as one who could succeed in redeeming herself, making her less than an ideal role model for hope and the hard work she would face to stave off the instant gratification of drugs.

I received an ARC edition from Flux.
