The eternal complexities of sibling relationships are revealed in four-time #1 bestselling author Steven Manchester’s “Lost.” The hope and betrayal that so often underlies love declare themselves in Marcia Gloster’s “Losing Will.” The reality behind a con man’s illusions emerge in Craig Ham’s contest-winning “Tonic and Spirits.” These are three of the dozen truths that will rise from these pages.

Side by side with the work of national bestselling novelists like Mary Marcus and Earl Javorsky, A DOZEN TRUTHS features the three winners of the 2016 AuthorsFirst Short Story Contest, providing a bold mix of experienced storytelling and fresh new voices.

As entertaining as it is engaging, A DOZEN TRUTHS promises twelve dramatic revelations – and as many powerful reading experiences.

A Dozen Truths: 12 Works of Fiction
by Steven Manchester and MORE

A Dozen Truths: 12 Works of FictionReading this amazing anthology of tales was kind of like being the first person at the dessert buffet and no one is watching as I fill my plate with at least one of everything! Along with my tried and true favorite authors, I have had a chance to sample what I am sure are going to be MORE favorite authors, best part, no calories, no guilt, just per reading entertainment and pleasure.

The resounding theme is loss of one form or another and how these losses are dealt with or expressed. From the endearing to the intriguing and beyond, each tale is a powerful statement to the talents of these authors. Small slices of their work are on display with just enough to inhale the essence of each style, as well as the depth of the worlds they have invited us into.

Of course, I have a favorite, I won’t even lie about that, but I would hate to detract from anyone’s efforts, so I am completely comfortable with saying, this is five-star reading in a kaleidoscope of writing talents, moods and atmospheres! Time to try out the main courses these authors have to offer.

I received this copy from Steven Manchester in exchange for my honest review.

May Falkner’s past two years have been a rough road. When her father suddenly passes away, May needs to find a job to help out her mom and regain some control over her life. Working at the bookstore helps her heal, laugh, and hope again. It also leads her to cross paths with Nico Evitts, who begins as just a co-worker, but becomes so much more

When it all becomes perfect, because there is no perfect, life steps in to prove once again that it all can crash down harder than before. This is a story about finding yourself, love, and the things in life that are still here.

Hearts are like balloons. Sometimes they inflate… Sometimes they deflate…

Upper YA contemporary that contains mature themes

Hearts Are Like Balloons by Candace Robinson

Hearts Are Like BalloonsIt’s true, hearts ARE like balloons, they begin as we do in life, blank, smooth, deflated, but then they fill with what life gives us. In those times we experience pain, loss or disappointments, hopefully they only deflate a little, but when life gets almost unbearable with the weight it presses down on us, the heart deflates so much that what is left is stretched out and misshapen. There is only one way to fix that and it is to find that missing love and happiness and hang on tight!

Candace Robinson’s HEARTS ARE LIKE BALLOONS is one girl’s story of how her balloon deflated and almost didn’t get inflated again. Get ready to feel the intense emotions of a tale that could happen to anyone because life isn’t perfect and it is how you take on those bumps and smooth patches that keep your balloon afloat.

This is May’s story of love, loss, grief, mistakes and starting over, sadder, wiser, but ready to take on the world as she comes into her own, grows comfortable in her own skin, her own mind and matures with grace and dignity. Follow and FEEL May’s life unfold with some bold strokes of reality from author Candace Robinson. There is no over-the-top-angst, but there is realistic and raw emotions, struggles and the light at the end of a long and dark tunnel for one young woman I could only wish the very best for!

Find characters that feel and act real, witness true human responses to grief, disappointment, pain and joy. Candace Robinson has created a remarkable tale that knows no age boundaries, but has some great insights into the “what ifs” that can happen in an otherwise “normal” life. A wonderful hidden gem of a read!

I received an ARC edition from Candace Robinson in exchange for my honest review. Add it to your TBR pile, it is that good!

The Gate Guardian's Daughter by K.T. Munson (The Gate Trilogy - Prequel)

Trilogy: The Gate Trilogy - Prequel
Publication Date: May 20, 2017
Publisher: K.T. Munson
Genre: YA Fantasy
Print Length: 28 pages
Available from: Amazon

The interplanetary gates require guardians and the reformed demon Malthael is one of them.

His adoptive daughter, Elisabeth, is special, but her dangerous ability hasn’t awoken yet. Malthael knows it will one day and from then on her life will forever be altered. Malthael isolates her from outside world as much to protect everyone else as to safeguard her. It is all he can do to delay the inevitable.

Now that Elisabeth is ten, how long can Malthael keep her confined?

The Gate Guardian's Daughter by K.T. Munson
(The Gate Trilogy - Prequel)

The Gate Guardian's DaughterThe interplanetary gates needs a guard. It is the responsibility of the demon, Malthael. With his “family” by his side, his biggest worry is his adopted daughter, Elizabeth, only ten, but very special and her true nature has not come out yet.

Feeling the loneliness of a child who has been isolated for her own good, she jumps at the chance to have a friend who will spend hours sitting on the wall with her, playing games and reading. It is that very need for friends and the kind nature of her heart that worries Malthael the most…and then the unfathomable happens…

What an intro into The Gate Trilogy! A little background, some family dynamics and the kind of danger all children are warned of and all parents fear. K.T. Munson’s THE GATE GUARDIAN'S DAUGHTER is short and sweet, but packed with just enough story to feel the family relationship, no matter how different this family is! Elizabeth is an adorable child, naïve, and far too innocent for the world around her.

I was actually sorry to see this brief peek into The Gate Trilogy end because I know it is the promise of great things to come!

I received this copy from K.T. Munson in exchange for my honest review!

Linda MacDonald's The Man in the Needlecord Jacket #Giveaway

Genre: Adult contemporary fiction; Domestic Noir
Release Date: 28th May 2017
Publisher: Matador – An imprint of Troubador Publishing
The Man in the Needlecord Jacket follows the story of two women who are each struggling to let go of a long-term destructive partnership. Felicity is reluctant to detach from her estranged archaeologist husband and, after being banished from the family home, she sets out to test the stability of his relationship with his new love, Marianne.

When Felicity meets Coll, a charismatic artist, she has high hopes of being distracted from her failed marriage. What she doesn’t know is that he has a partner, Sarah, with whom he has planned a future. Sarah is deeply in love with Coll, but his controlling behaviour and associations with other women have always made her life difficult. When he becomes obsessed with Felicity, Sarah’s world collapses and a series of events is set in motion that will challenge the integrity of all the characters involved.

The Man in the Needlecord Jacket is a thought-provoking book, written from the perspectives of Sarah and Felicity. The reader is in the privileged position of knowing what’s going on for both of the women, while each of them is being kept in the dark about a very important issue.

Inspired by the work of Margaret Atwood and Fay Weldon, Linda explores the issue of mental abuse in partnerships and the grey area of an infidelity that is emotional, not physical. The book will appeal to readers interested in the psychology of relationships, as well as fans of Linda’s ‘Lydia’ series.
