My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is a story of survival in a dystopian, post-apocolyptic world written in a gritty and raw manner, no sugar coating allowed. A man-made 'fog' has been released on the world, destroying life as we know it and in its wake, if a person survived, they often gained varied psychic powers. Emma has been reunited with her family after leaving her heart behind in Europe with Arthur. Haywood, Emma's husband, knows something is not right, but clings to what they once had and the strength of having a family with her. When one of their daughters is taken, Emma goes on a trek through what is left of the frozen Canadian wilderness to find her. Fate reunites her with Arthur and she must choose between her heart and her family, and still keep everyone alive.
From page one I was riveted to this bleak world where hope and honor can still exist. Yes, there was evil, greed, fear, bad people taking advantage of others, but love, strength and the will to live still existed, too. The author told an amazing story, brutally well. COLD LIGHT is Book 2 in the AFTER Series, following the book FALLEN.
I received this book from Netgalley and Parvati Press in exchange for an honest review.
