Jenna should be having the time of her life at college.
Instead, her only desire is survival. She lives in a world gone insane
after a virus kills most of the population. Being alive after the apocalypse is
bad, but when the undead return, hungry for humans, times turn darker. For
Jenna and a small group of survivors, the goal is to reach the High Point Inn.
At the inn, Jenna develops feelings for Caleb, who, while exotic and
intoxicating, is not quite human. Will this new utopia last?

Dii's 5 Star Review:
In the world of all things Post-apocalyptic, Apocalipstick
by Lisa Acerbo is my latest hidden gem find, the one that I didn’t see
coming until the author pointed it out to me! The apocalypse has come,
mindless, decomposing, flesh-eating monsters are roaming the land, human
survivors are few and far between, banding together when possible, but
ANOTHER group has also evolved! “Others” live alongside the humans,
stronger, faster, light-sensitive, with slightly different food
requirements and rapid healing abilities. Apocalipstick
is the story of the fight for survival and hope for the future for one
group of humans and Others with a fresh feel, some intense moments and a
little romance!
Author Lisa Acerbo can write! Her ability to slash out a gut-clenching battle scene had me wanting to plug my nose, my ears, and consider reaching for the airsick bag until my inner super hero took over and put me in the middle of the gory action! Fortunately, Ms. Acerbo knows when to lighten up and give us all some hope when the survivors find respite in a secluded resort and begin to attempt living as normal a life as possible. Of course, things can’t be all smooth sailing and she creates conflicts that are very plausible. Face it, you can’t put a group of strangers together without “issues” and she addresses them well.
Intended for YA audiences, the romance is tender, but not graphic and thankfully, the “which boy to love” issue is very brief and well-done! You won’t find any high-octane angst here! With strong characters who are either easily likable or easily detestable, perfectly fitting into their part of the plot, the author even manages to provide great dialogue.
I admit it, I’m an apocalypse junkie, I figure the more I read about it, the better my chances for survival, until then, books like Apocalipstick are keeping me completely entertained!

ReplyDeleteWhat are two things you'd have to have in a zombie apocalypse?
ReplyDeleteWater and a way to kill zombies.
I'd take Beth, she has the solar charger-I'll bring another Kindle, although, maybe Tina should come with us with her Zombie Killer!
