They’re always watching. They’re always waiting. They’re always starving…

Ten years ago, the sky shattered and the Hellions emerged. No one was able to keep them from destroying the city of Westraven. Now that the bloodthirsty monsters rule the skies and have forced the few remaining humans underground, Claire Abernathy lives in a nightmare. She survives by using her skills as an engineer for a ruthless tyrant connected to her mother and father’s past failure.

Then Claire’s world is torn apart when her sister Abby is kidnapped by the Hellions, and Claire herself is taken by dangerous sky pirates known as marauders. But Claire will not be intimidated by them while her sister’s life hangs by a thread, and so she strikes a deal with them: If they help rescue Abby, she will fix their ship and give them the chance to take the revenge they desperately seek.

As Claire fights for her sister’s life, she begins to realize that the Hellions are not the only dangers she’ll face. Burdensome secrets and devastating betrayals threaten her at every turn, and if she loses herself to them, it won’t just be her life that is destroyed…

Crimson Sky (Dark Sky #1) by Amy Braun
Crimson Sky (Dark Sky #1)Humans were driven underground the day the Hellions first rained blood and death over the city of Westraven. That was ten years ago and the world is now a living nightmare, both from the monsters in the sky and from the cruel dictator below ground. Claire survives by using her gift for engineering as she risks life and limb on a daily basis for the tyrant below the earth. If not for her young sister, she would rather face a quick death than either the bloodthirsty Hellions or the monster she works for.

True Hell on Earth came when the Hellions kidnapped her sister and Claire vows to bring her back or die trying. No shrinking violet, when Claire finds herself captured by sky pirates, she makes a deal with the devil to save her sister’s life. Betrayal, danger, horrors and an unwelcome attraction to one of the pirates are all part of the journey Claire must undertake to save her sister and humanity from the ghoulish vampires. Unlikely allegiances will be formed, loyalties tested and the grit of true strength of character make Amy Braun’s Crimson Sky read like a daring bungee jump from an abandoned train track.

Share the terror and the unknown from inside Claire’s mind and be part of the nightmare she lives as one outspoken and daring young lady risks life and limb for the freedom of more than just her young sister. Brilliant dialogue shows that Claire is not cut out for the life she must undertake, but in spite of her whining, she jumps into the fray like a true hero. A swashbuckling, arrogant pirate plays off her more serious nature with a hint of romance and a touch of humor as heads will roll, blood will be shed and horrific and heartbreaking secrets will be revealed.

Who knew vampires, steampunk and a dystopian tale could be brewed into a concoction that will glue readers to every page and feeling every moment?

I received this copy from Amy Braun in exchange for my honest review.
