Ravage by Tillie Cole (Scarred Souls #3)
Brutal, dark and filled with soul-deep hatred, pain and longing, Ravage by Tillie Cole, while filled with explicit sexual scenes is not erotica, it is a tale of redemption and hope, no matter the cost. It is a tale of mending a broken soul, of freeing one’s mind and body from years of heinous torture and manipulation. For those wondering, although part of a series, I read this as a standalone and never once regretted it.
We all say it and we do mean it coming from our own limited perception of the inhumanity that twisted minds can rain down on the innocent. We would do anything for those we love, to keep them safe or at least alive. That vow was made by a young boy to his much younger sister as they were taken captive to become part of the dark and secret world of science gone wrong, where heartless killing machines are created through torture and drugs and blackmail.
Number 194 barely remembers his name, but he remembers the vow to his sister, to someday save her. His target, a huge and powerful man in the Russian Mafia. The reason doesn’t matter, but #194 will fill his mission with twisted diligence, until a woman in the shadows, outside his target’s home becomes the best weapon he could use. As the torture begins, he finds more strength and honor in this woman, even as she denies his questions.
Zoya should know better than to attempt to humanize her torturer, but what she discovers is not a scarred monster, but a broken man, a warrior only trying to save his last living relative from her own torment, and his name is Valentin. Love knows no limitations or whose heart you may crave. Only those involved can decide if the price is worth a future of hope and light.
Tillie Cole will ravage your heart and shred your vanilla sensibilities in a world so dark, so vile and so inhumane, there will be times you wonder if you can continue without being sick. The sexual torture is demeaning and not erotic at all, but the beauty of making love is astounding. Not for the too-soft hearted or those whose imaginations cannot tolerate the brutality, but most definitely a powerful tale written by an author who pulls no punches.
I received an ARC edition from St. Martin's Griffin in exchange for my honest review.
