From school bullies to the crime-ridden streets of his hometown of Los Angeles, Jeremy Riker has always felt the need to do something about the injustice surrounding him. Just as he sets out on his journey as an urban warrior, he unknowingly gives rise to an obsessive adversary, who ends up becoming one of the most notorious serial killers the city has ever known. Dubbed by the news media as The Spyderco Killer, the methodical psychopath roots himself deep into Riker's life for the long haul, until his own madness propels everything into an intense climax.
Riker's Calling by Rico Lamoureux
Roll the mental camera, sit back and enjoy a brief tale of intrigue and mystery. As the main character, Jeremy Riker fights the injustices in the world around him, he becomes the focus of a mysterious psychopath as the media gives this dark and twisted killer his place in public infamy.
Unable to become a police officer, Jeremy becomes a P.I. with an eye to solving the unsolvable crimes and discovers his connection to the deadly serial killer. Now he must stop this madman before the death count rises as he works against time to discover the who and why of these brutal acts.
Riker’s Calling by Rico Lamoureux is gritty, raw and is filled with drama and suspense. After a lightening quick opening and some heavy action, we learn more about what makes Riker tick through flashbacks. With few missteps, this author pulls in his readers and gives them a crime thriller with truly human characters. A few more pages would have fleshed out this tale and given it more meat to sink our teeth into, although, for a quick read when the reader wants some down and dirty grit, this makes for some good reading!
A SPECIAL GUEST POST
An American Dream on Foreign Soil
I first set foot in the Philippines over fourteen years ago. Young, naïve, and about to fall in love. A year earlier I had become legally blind, and wasn’t sure how much longer I’d have my remaining sight. Having always hoped for marriage, I was now facing a difficult dilemma. What if I would be unable to see my future wife? This fear caused me to accelerate fate, casting my net beyond the shores of my home country of the U.S., since it was factually known to have a divorce rate of over 50%.
I tempted fate, and boy did it come back with a vengeance! Amongst the stack of letters that had come in in reply to my international personal ad was someone who right away captured my heart. A few months later, legally blind but determined, I boarded a plane to the other side of the world.
Within twenty-four hours I was engaged. Within two weeks, married…!
Having been placed on disability due to my condition, I didn’t meet income requirements to acquire a visa for my new wife, and unable to bring myself to board that return flight home, alone, I decided to stay. Fourteen years later and I’m still here, still trying to fight the good fight with every stroke of the pen.
Throughout the years I have heard countless Filipinos express their awe for the U.S., believing it to be a magical land where every desire is granted. Now I’m one of the most patriotic people you’ll ever meet, especially since experiencing the hardships of a Third World for so long after leaving The Land of Opportunity. But for those who thought I was crazy for choosing love over country, one very important thing they didn’t understand is that our country is number one for a reason, our kind possessing passion and determination like no other. I try to explain that being American is more about the spirit than where you happen to be. That ambitious nature. That determination to strive for excellence and succeed. I’d point to my head and heart and say, “This is where America really is!”
All these years and I have never given up on my American dream. Through water shortages, flood-making-typhoons, electricity blackouts, etc. That CAN DO American spirit that was instilled into me so long ago still emanates from me as powerful as ever.
Will I actually ever make it back home? I honestly don’t know. But that dream to be a successful author still remains deep inside. Online saturation as made it nearly impossible to make a living through ebooks alone, and now, after several self-published works, many of which have received critical acclaim, I’ve come to the conclusion that I need to go back to the traditional format of storytelling if I am to have a real chance at success.
Success- Such a relative term. But to me it means being able to do what you love while being able to provide at least a decent life for your family.
Family- A concept my wife and I have been dreaming of since before we said, “I do.” The priceless gift of child. We’ve been so patient, tried so hard, to wait until Success arrived, but time waits for no one, and so if we are to beat the biological clock, the time is now…

Rico Lamoureux considers himself a dramatist. He believes too much emphasis is put on genre nowadays, and not enough on actual story. From Historical Fiction to Contemporary Romance. From shocking Horror to edge-of-your-page Thrillers. A great story transcends genre, with dramatic elements being the utmost of importance.
