A camper travels the back roads of America, but it is not what it seems. Pursued by powerful forces: a mastermind, a maniac, and a terrorist, its crew wonders if they’ll ever reach Journey’s end.

When Eloise Corwin – a longtime patient in her desert hometown’s infirmary – finds a wounded young traveler sharing her sick room; she insists that he tell her about his adventures. The young man, Orson Gregory, tells her how he found and stole a glowing gemstone, hidden for decades beneath the government-built factory beside his family farm. He tells her how he’s been chased ever since – by mercenaries, by terrorists, and by other, stranger enemies. He tells her how he threw in his lot with a real adventurer, a mythology professor, an innkeeper, and a duo of hired guns on a cross-country journey to clear his name and return home – something he’s currently failing to do. To reach safety, the motley travelers will first have to deal with each other, evade the foes that follow their every move, and tangle with other forces both strange and powerful, their fellow travelers on the Wayfarers Highway.

Wayfarers Highway by Peter Petrack

Wayfarers HighwayThe patient’s story started with a glowing gemstone. The one he found and took from its hiding place beneath a government factory. Since then Orson has been on the run, chased by mercenaries, terrorists and more. More a scholar than a warrior, Orson soon discovers there is more to life than meets the eye and the deeper you dig, the more dark secrets you will uncover and then the faster you will have to run.

So run Orson did with a ragtag band of allies after a powerful, yet old man of magic sends him on his way, while special guardian fight off the evil beings who want him dead. What is so special about the gemstone? Why does everyone want it? What aren’t people telling him? Who is the strong and almost feral warrior woman who is unwillingly on the run with him?

The chase is on, while our young hero and his troupe travel in an amazing “camper” that can maneuver the waters and soar through the air as easily as it drives across the country in a madcap chase for survival.

Prepare to feel as if you have fallen into another world, one that feels “old-fashioned” but is clearly very modern, very high tech and very dangerous. Do not expect a multitude of heroes in the sense that brawn and brain will be delivered in a dream-like Adonis. Welcome to real heroes, the quiet, the quirky, the afraid and the ones who you almost can’t make your mind up about! Imagine being stuffed into a sardine can with a bunch of strangers, and having to trust they will have your back, no matter what. Multiply that feeling by days and day on the run, trying to lay low and remain unnoticed only to be outed by bribery.

What is so special about this gemstone? The answer is between the pages of WAYFARERS HIGHWAY by Peter Petrack. Follow along on an amazing journey where secrets are withheld, secrets are shared and one group of strangers must learn to trust in each other to survive against the evil that is dogging their collective tails. Filled with a feeling of adventure, urgency and often hopelessness, sit back, buckle in and get ready to roll down the WAYFARERS HIGHWAY.

I received this copy from Peter Petrack in exchange for my honest review.
