As the sun rises on a quiet Swiss mountain village in 1957, runaway Peppa Mueller wakes up naked and stranded on the roof of her employer’s manor, with no idea how she got there. As she waits for help, she struggles to piece together fragmented memories of the previous night. Did she really witness the brutal massacre of a local family? Did she kill them? Her fear of sinister house guest Dr. Unruh fuels her panic—as do electrifying flashes of a furious falcon, trapped inside her.

Wanted for murder, Peppa flees the police, intent on finding out if there’s a scientific explanation or if she’s just going mad. Her godfather, world-renowned chemist Dr. Kaufmann, risks his career to help her. In the meantime, Peppa fights her attraction to the handsome priest from India who offers her shelter. With their help, she not only finds Dr. Unruh but places herself at his mercy. His experiments may be the reason Peppa now shares her body with a bloodthirsty bird of prey—but the revenge she plans could kill them both.

(Falcon Trilogy #1)
The Falcon Flies Alone (Falcon Trilogy #1)From page one, the hook was set and the first mystery begins. A young woman awakening on a roof, naked with no clear recollection of how she got there. Was she a part of brutal murders? Was she another victim who got away? Was it a dream? Peppa is a loner of sorts, a strong personality that is the driving force throughout Gabrielle Mathieu’s THE FALCON FLIES ALONE. This is the tale of a woman on the run from the authorities, desperate to find the hidden secrets of the strange doctor, Unruh. As Peppa allows herself to be a guinea pig for Dr. Unruh’s mind altering drugs, she discovers that somehow she feels apart of a fierce falcon, soaring high in search of prey. Is she losing her mind? Has the doctor altered her in some way?

On the run, she finds shelter and romance in the arms of an Indian doctor, but is he who he says he is or is he part of the plot to capture her? Whose side is her on and why?
Step back into the mid twentieth century Switzerland an dbecome part of a dark and gritty mystery that will have you questioning events, their relevance and hwo they are tied together. Be prepared, this is a twisted journey with elements of the supernatural, hallucinogenic drugs, good intentions gone bad and questions raised without easy answers. Well written, deep and dark, Gabrielle Mathieu has created a magnetic read that holds the answers close to the vest.

No worries about liking all of the characters, just appreciate the roles they play to propel this tale forward. Unpredictable, a clever mix of the occult and science fiction fantasy, do not under estimate Peppa.

I received this copy from Five Directions Press and Gabrielle Mathieu in exchange for my honest review. Not for all readers but a gem for those it was meant for!
