Madison Fox survived her first week as California’s newest illuminant enforcer, defending her region against imps, vervet, hounds, and one lascivious demon. If her grumpy boss, Mr. Pitt, was impressed, he hasn’t told Madison. In fact, there’s a lot her boss has been closemouthed about, including the dark secret haunting his past.
But Madison’s problems are just igniting. Neighboring regions report an uncharacteristic flare-up of evil, fire-breathing salamanders blaze unchecked across the city, and Black Friday looms. Trapped doing cleanup amid mobs of holiday shoppers, Madison watches from the sidelines as dubious allies insinuate themselves in her region.
As suspicions kindle and the mysterious evil gains strength, Madison must determine who she can trust—and whose rules to follow—before her region and career go up in flames.
Sizzling with adventure and sparking with magic, A FISTFUL OF FIRE is fused with Madison Fox’s trademark blend of humor and ass-kicking action.
A Fistful of Fire by Rebecca Chastain (Madison Fox, #2)
Life as the newest, most clueless illuminant enforcer isn’t easy, but Madison has actually made through her first week…barely. Not that she was expecting a pat on the back or anything, but just maybe her boss could do more than grunt or give her “that” look. When Mr. Pitt assigns her to “mall” duty starting Black Friday, Madison is pretty sure things couldn’t get much worse. Little did she know, her career was about to catch on fire as a flare-up of evil ignites at the mall and her “allies” are anything but encouraging as they overrun her territory and leave her out in the cold.
Fire-breathing salamanders are wreaking havoc on the holiday spirit as deep in the bowels of the mall another, far more dangerous being lurks in the darkness. Should Madison follow orders and stand back like the novice she is or should she go with her gut and prove she is worthy of being an enforcer?
Rebecca Chastain’s A FISTFUL OF FIRE is a raging inferno of action, adventure and humor and our Madison finds herself like the proverbial moth attracted to the flame and a whole boatload of trouble! If ever a character has won my heart, it’s Madison! She is witty, has a heart of gold, and is to trouble what a magnet is to metal! Madison is the employee that tries her hardest, even when she knows she is missing some key information that would make things a whole lot easier.
I just love Rebecca Chastain’s razor-sharp sense of timing and humor, along with her ability to create scenes that are taut with tension, but never without a moment of lightness when you least expect it.
Want a break from the dark urban fantasies that can get so heavy? Want a few laughs with that all the turmoil? Hang on tight for magic, mayhem and Madison!
